Yeah, I'd be curious about this as well. I'd love to see a product review from an E Class owner.

There’s android units for 300usd on eBay, and you get the Bluetooth benefit and many others, plus you can sell your old one, but I think I do prefer the look of the oem simplicity/minimalist design that blends with the rest of the interior at night over the big android screen.
on YouTube there’s installs of the lapower unit, just search Laporte Benz, but no actual review. And they use it on cdc (cd changer) I don’t have that option on my radio but do have the cd. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...1868fb692c.jpg |
I just purchased it, so I'll let you know how it goes. I'm assuming I can't use the factory buttons to answer phone calls.

I purchased one of these units in order to replace my cartronic unit which no longer does AD2P (the phone part works fine)
I purchased it through Amazon (3rd party seller) I have experience with fiber optics and Mercedes so the install was very easy being I was just swapping out the cartronic unit (same setup) I could not get it to Pair with my I-Phone.6S or my daughters Samsung the phones do not see the unit. I returned it for a refund. 2006 Mercedes E320 CDI |
I have this unit for half a year now. I think it is a rip off/copy cat of Dension units at 1/3 off the price. On the plus side: It is connected to blutooth (A2DP and phone calls), mp3 (not flac) from SD and USB work. All the information display on HU and between speedometer, and control by steering wheel. On the negative side: it is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to navigate, changing source (USB to SD, blutooth...etc), the menu system is clunky and for some reason the song list name is wrong (show the wrong names for the playing songs).
I want the usb mp3 option and keep the oem HU, so this unit does it for me. Installation is simple, almost plug and play. Oh, and there is no potential software update for this device. |

But it shows the incorrect name? |

The CD changer function has to be activated (via MB Star) in the head unit in order to use this adapter.

My radio has the CDC button in it. It should be getting here soon. Can't wait to install!

At $140 its worthwhile but you can't dial using the head unit.

I didnt do anything different. If your steering wheel buttons worked with the CD changer before, then it should work with this device too. Also the display between the speedometer works too. I have a large 64 gb sd card with musics, and the display song were totally off!! it plays 1 song, and displays another!!??

I installed the same unit in my 05 E55. I only use the bluetooth and phone features. I have not plugged in the USB or AUX. That being said, the only thing it displays on the dash is Track 1 or Track 2. The headunit does display track names properly. No complaints apart from that!

I have a stupid question about the install of this unit. in my car, i have the nav headunit (comand 50 i think...) there is only one fiber optic plug at the back or the HU. Do i connect the one supplied with the bluetooth box instead of this one? My car doesn’t have the cdc option in it. tried powering up the unit and after the MB welcome message, i get a black screen and the unit reboots. anyone can help? thanks! |
I have a question about these too. Has anyone tried it while configuring their phone to use the MB bluetooth (or something else) for phone calls, and this unit just for other audio? Right now I use the 2005-era Mercedes-Benz MHI Bluetooth module (the first one,but not the "puck") for phone calls and a Miccus Mini-Jack AX4 for music from my phone. In modern Android (Oreo or Pie) it is more-or-less straightforward to tell the phone for any given Bluetooth device you have paired, which profiles/services you want it to use.
I'm just wondering if anyone has one of these LP1601 units and is only using it for music, while using something else for phone calls. I rather like the OEM voice control, though eventually I may punt it for Google Assistant or Siri. Thanks! |

How is the audio quality of mp3 played by this unit?
