2003 E320 - Failed Fuel Pump and Fuel Tank Sender Assy.

Are the above covered by the extended 15 year warranty coverage offered by MB for the fuel system?

I have the letter from MB and my Indy determined that both failed as my car did no longer want to start properly this AM.

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

I had the same issue

Yes the fuel system is covered under the recall warranty.. Call the dealer and make an appointment ...they fixed mine and I haven’t had any additional fuel issues... your Indy can fix it and MBUSA will refund you providing your indy uses all OEM parts

Thank you!
YES, you are absolutely correct. I called my local service advisor who did not hesitate to tell me that MB would fix this under the 15 year warranty. I took the car from the Indy to the dealer, as I prefer to have the dealer work on my vehicle if there is no cost to me.

The best part of the whole situation, ...... my 15 year warranty ran out the following day after the pump failed, so while not having any luck that morning with driving my car, my trustworthy Benz failed just at the right time.

Car is currently at the shop having the repairs done, should hopefully get her back on Monday.

How long should it take?

As mentioned, my car is in the shop to have the fuel system issue taken care of by the local dealer under the 15 year extended warranty.

How long was your car on the shop if you had this problem and it was taken care of under the extended warranty?
My car has been in the shop for the last 2 weeks and is hopefully going to be completed this coming Monday.
Now I told the dealer not to rush, as we have a 3rd vehicle, but longer then 2 weeks? Is that normal for this type of work?

Thanks.

That’s normal, the first week they were probably getting authorization from MBUSA to do the work... I always felt as long as I have a nice loaner car that the dealer can take as long as they want.. it’s less miles and wear and tear I would have to put on my car... so in my opinion , enjoy their loaner car let them take their dear sweet time while you drive and put miles on their car lol

No loaner car, the 3rd vehicle is my personal vehicle.

But, got your point, guess it' all good then, thank you.

There's no approval needed, it's like factory warranty.

They probably didn't have the tank in stock, there's a lot of cars getting this done, and we usually keep one in stock, but when we don't have one here, it can be a couple days to get one.

You are correct, I was told they had to order the tank.
I was just curious and was wondering how long you guys had to wait.
As mentioned, we have a 3rd vehicle, so it is not an inconvenience having to wait and I am for sure VERY THANKFUL that this will be taken care of under warranty.

Thanks Guys.

It took my dealer one day to do mine. Dropped it off on a Monday morning and picked it up Tuesday afternoon. They had to find a tank and luckily found one locally from another dealer and had it that evening. They started the job on Tuesday morning.

Also got a loaner. Didn't need it since I have another vehicle, but I didn't have to **** around with getting a ride to/from the dealer that way.

MB Dealer Repair Costs

No question about taking a vehicle to the dealer for warranty work. But that $3400 cost would be about half the cost or less if the work were done by a good quality independent dealer.........parts and labor. For the first time a few months ago I used a local MB independent repair shop to replace all 16 of my spark plugs on my 2003 E500. Last time I had it done at my MB Dealer it was over $700.........the independent shop did it for $350 parts and labor. The spark plug wires also needed replacement which they did very reasonably. The following week I replace all eight ignition coils DIY project. Cost me $80 per ignition coil at Advance Auto which had the same Bosh units that my MB Dealer sells for $220 each........they jack up the price by designating them Genuine MB Parts. You can, however, find discount Genuine MB Parts on line at various places, e.g., www.getmercedesparts.com (Annapolis MB Dealer) and https://parts.mercedesbenzofdurham.com (Durham NC MB Dealer), etc.

Take the print out with the parts from the Annapolis dealer or www.mboemparts.com (Illinois dealer) to your local dealer and ask them to match it considering they would match an authorized dealer's quote. This way you will not pay extra for shipping and wait almost 2 weeks for delivery. I've done that 5 years ago with my local dealer and I have a set 25% discount since then and I bring the parts guys coffee and donuts twice a year.

I am missing your point?????

The dealer took care of it all under warranty, no cost to me. I was simply stating that the cost was 3400 bucks, but no out of pocket for me.
