I have a 2004 E500 Station Wagon. The vehicle droops on the front right passenger wheel. I am pulling a fault code that reads: "A9/1y1(AIRmatic pressure release valve) : Open circuit. Is it likely the strut is leaking, or is it the level control valve? What should i inspect and look for to determine what is the component at fault?

A9/1y1 = Compressor pressure reduction valve, see attachment.

You can access that valve listed below by removing the lower front plastic cover just behind the bumper with an 8mm socket. Or gain more access and remove the wheel and front inner fender well plastic cover as well.

Maybe the electrical connector on the valve previously mentioned is loose or if not, take it off then re-seat it a few times to see if the contacts are dirty. I'm not sure if that valve has it's own fuse or not. Take visual note of the style of valve you have in case you need to replace it; as there are a few different types available depending on the year and equipment on the vehicle. There could be debris clogging a valve inside it if the compressor filter is compromised or the desiccant is moisture laden. Both of these are normal maintenance items and should be replaced every once & awhile.

You can also check the electrical connector that is directly on top of the airstrut that can be seen in the engine bay on top of the fender-well. It connects to the solenoid air valve in the airstrut.

I know some moderators prefer older threads be left alone but I am just taking am moment to thank those that posted question and the brilliant answer (with cropped graphic). I am years later dealing with the same fault code for our 06 E500 Sedan. What should have been a horrific accident on a packed fast moving expressway...as an I still don't no what it was piece flew off a flat bed...only ripped out under shields and the fender liners. I knew the shields need to be replaced quickly with the compressor assembly in mind. I procrastinated through part of the winter season (Chicago area)...and just when the parts arrived...the 06 E500 sedan sagged in back and offered the same fault 6360 or 5350 (can't read photo now) with ""A9/1y1(AIRmatic pressure release valve) : Open circuit." My star DAS clone offers a communication error when we attempt to actuate pressure release for any of the struts. So salt and grime are bad for the compressor assembly on this old brilliant workhorse of a car. Once the problem is corrected, I may make a new thread covering the problem, solution and importance of the shields. My purpose here is to just express thanks from a middle ager who only recently started playing mechanic. Bravo!
