E500 loss of power after double downshift?
After almost 10,000 trouble free miles on my 2003 E500, I am experiencing my first issue. After pushing the accelerator all the way down and pushing the button for the double downshift, the car appears to go into limp mode. I can have my foot to the floor and the car does not want to move at all. No check engine light or anything that signals an issue. Once I turn off the car and restart, everything goes back to normal. I searched google with little luck. Any ideas guys? Thank you

I haven't scanned the transmission, but I really dont think its a tranny issue. I never have any sort of shifting problems. Once I click the button with the pedal for the double downshift, I can put my foot to the floor for 3-5 seconds and nothing happens. Eventually the car gives little power to get it moving. If I manually shift into another gear, it is the same issue. Once I power off and right back on at a traffic light, everything goes back to normal. It also doesn't always do this when the double downshift.

Could be an issue with the accelerator pedal sensors (generally they cause a check engine light though) or a fault in the electrical system of the transmission (i.e. module, solenoids, valve body). Find someone to scan the car with more than just a cheapy handheld scanner, and see what faults you are getting.

I have the same thing and it doesn't show any code on STAR. Other threads in here point to the accelerator and I have a spare one but it wasn't such a big issue to change it.

If there is a limp, it has to be a code. Even mid-grade OBD scanner should read something, while for full transmission scan you need SD

I assumed he is referring to kick-down switch.
It is double shift on 500 - the diesel pulls just fine dropping single gear.

On mine it's not really a a limp, it is a delay of about 3 seconds. I push the gas and hold it there for 3 seconds before the car reacts to it. It doesn't throw a CEL but you are right, there was a code on DAS about the accelerator pedal. I probably use this maybe twice a year.
