Drain points

Does anyone know where the drain points are on the E550 4Matic (2007)? I have a leak in my trunk, today's heavy rain revealed water coming from the upper rear metal lining (NOT the trunk lid, further back) on the driver's side. Water was entering just beyond where the rain rail/guard (wrong term, but i hope you understand) is. I also had a smidge of water drip out of the bottom lip of the trunk lid (several posts refer to removing the vinyl 'sticker' or sealing around the lip, I am not ready to do either, as I do not think that is the source in this instance (but will revisit if it becomes an issue.

I had some water last November, but chalked it up to a leaking water bottle. I did, however, clean all the crap out of the 'rain rail' (there was build-up top center). Obvious water drain pathways have remained clean since,

Misc pages (including for an SLK, Convertable, and something else) have me eager to check the drains (entry through exit) for the sunroof (though, it appears it drains behind the front wheels - I cannot find the origin drainhole at the skylight, and I wonder if there is a second drainhole at the back of the sunroof) and also for the back rear window and the 'rain rail.'

If you know where the drain points are, I would appreciate the input. Same, if you have thoughts on the matter. Otherwise, I'll likely take it to a body shop on Monday.

Thank you!

Source of leak still unknown.

Update: there was some water from the trunk latch, so I will look into having sealany added to the screw holes holding the license plate section on.

The primary leak is coming from under the trubk shelf. The outermost 'holes'. The rest of the metal under the trunk shelf appears bone dry. There is no water/moisture/condensation on the interior cabin. The seals look to be fine.

Does the sunroof have a drain tube that runs to the back and, perhaps, has an elbow joint or connector that may have come off?

I'll be taking to the body shop, since I think the whole interior will need to be taken out to identify the leak. Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated. Ive attached a photo of where water could be found (stick finger and hole and feel the shelf area to the outside of the hole... The interior direction is completely dry.) https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...84f96a27a5.png

Sunroof has 4 drains, left/right front (a-pillar) and rear (c-pillar) that drain below @ corresponding wheel well. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...4b866007aa.jpg

konigstiger,
Are there any drains around the bottom of the back window and in the channels under the trunk lid but outside the trunk seal, where the hard black plastic is?

My trunk is leaking on the passenger side just above the battery/ cargo net area. I just bought the car (PO said it was water bottles when I asked him, liar) and the "channels" under the rear window between the trunk lid and the channels between the trunk seal and the body where full of mud/ wet dirt.
I cleaned them out but I'm thinking there might be some drains in that area that are clogged with dirt/mud and the water is overflowing in to the trunk?

Pull top & side paneling, check antenna stop plug. For precaution check Teleaid backup antenna location (80 in diagram). See attachments.

Same problem

I recently inherited a 2003 E320, only 73,000 miles. There is evidence of water incursion into the trunk. Photos and comments posted by @Cambz in this thread exactly match my water leak.

Thanks to information in this forum, I replaced the battery control module and rear SAM with used components and this restored many functions that had failed (tail lights, trunk lid switch, fuel door, rear window shade). The battery control module was corroded from the moisture.

If the car is parked on a slope with front end downhill, the trunk does not leak or accumulate water. Last night I parked with the front end uphill and it rained. Got a pretty good puddle on the right side of trunk floor, in and around battery.

Last week I caulked the antenna entry points on the trunk with silicone. I have cleaned the trunk gasket of all leaves and gunk. I don’t see any evidence that water is coming in through tail light, but I suppose I should caulk the rubber gasket to rule this out.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
thanks!

Solved at least on my e350

I found that I had water near the battery in the trunk and on the sill under the plastic... Finally saw water in my passenger tail light... The seal between the tail light and the body had been allowing water in for some time... Ordered seals from the dealer. Sealed it with clear silicone for the time being.
