W211 E500 (M273) AMG 'Designo'
E500 Exhaust Modification (quad pipe etc)

Hi there,
I live in Sydney, AUSTRALIA.
I own an immaculate W211 2006 E500 (M273) AMG 'Designo' update.
Read with great interest a forum on muffler & cat delete plus 'J-Pipes' from 2016.
Wanting to add an AMG style quad pipe setup and really wish to get more of a beefier exhaust note without any drone or cabin noise intrusion, hence my interest in the article by ARFISCH.
Will the setup that "Arfisch" installed on February 1, 2016 re the 'J-Pipe (Miracle pipe)' as he put it, will that setup work well with my M273 V8.
My current exhaust system has the secondary cats removed & has a 'H-Pipe' installed (not an 'X-Pipe') and then goes to the rear mufflers which are aftermarket & slightly smaller than original.
This produces more of a rumbly sound but has a drone in the cabin up to 1,700 rpm which is not that bad once you drive thru it but still slightly annoying.
I would very much appreciate your thoughts & feedback and look forward to hearing from you.
Kind Regards,
(Dreamstrong)

Doesn't the 06 have hidden exhaust tips ? I can't quite remember. Ether way going to have to cut holes in your bumper, replace your bumper with an AMG style bumper, or have your exhaust tips sit under your bumper.

The muffler delete + jpipe works for for any vehicle. Most shops usually will have no idea what a j-pipe is and what it does, but it does work.

W211 E500 (M273) AMG 'Designo'
Hi,
Firstly, many thanks for your reply.
I have the update of the W211 E500 (called E550 I believe in the USA) which was originally fully optioned including the AMG Sports Pack & the AMG Styling Package - Front Spoiler & Side Skirts. (see my pics)
This is 'Designo Graphite' with Designo custom interior.
Would C63 rear mufflers give it that raspy V8 growl ??

C63 mufflers would be louder, but people want a lot of money for a used set. You'd most likely be looking at well over $1,000 AUS for a pair. If you went that route, just get an E55 or E63 rear bumper. You could also add a carbon fiber diffuser to it then.

Lose the AMG badge too. Your car is not an AMG so it's poserish having one on there.

Ahh usa 2007-09 is the facelift w211. Other parts of the world would be 2006-2008. In that case you have the same car as I did.

I had c63 mufflers, swapped resonator with an x pipe. I loved the sound very much. Had a classy amg sound and was not intrusive. I don't have any sounds clips though.

Thanks for your reply & input re the C63 mufflers which I certainly appreciate, and I do have the AMG Sports Pack (this was the W211 E500 update model) which has the E55 / E63 rear bumper. Did you see the photo's that I had posted on this thread earlier today?
In so far as the AMG badge is concerned I do not see it as "poserish" as it was on the car when I purchased it some time ago from the 1st owner.
Please don't get me wrong as I respect that you are entitled to your opinion, however, in this particular instance I give it back to you.
Kind Regards,

Generally in this forum people associate amg badging with an amg engine. An amg sport package would not make your car an amg. Your wheels, front and rear bumpers are also not the same as an e55 e63. They were specifically designed for the non amg e class. It's your car so do what you want with it, but you'll get a lot of negative feedback with that badge on that car.

So you're telling me that the bumper on your car is the exact same one as I have on my E63 shown below? I saw your pics and there is nothing AMG about your car. Those are not E55/E63 wheels either. The front bumper is standard 2007-2009 E Class as well.

It's your car so do whatever you want with it, but just because the previous owner slapped an AMG badge on it doesn't make it one.

Mr Strigoi (MBWorld Fanatic),

It seems to me you are the purporting to be the resident "guru" & "critique" of a new member who simply wishes to enjoy owning what he has for many years now. I love my Mercs and I joined this site with a view to having an enjoyable experience networking with other owners of the same marque.

Once again, and with all due respect I did not anticipate such an unfriendly response simply over a little badge that has been on the vehicle since I purchased it many years ago and YES I know that the wheels are NOT E55/E63 wheels BUT they are AMG wheels nonetheless.

Now with regards to the rear bumper, did I ever state that the bumper on my E500 is the exact same as on your "E63" !! ... no I did not (I was told by my local Mercedes dealership that the bumper is the E63 bumper main body except for the diffuser section) .... however, apart from the colour, the diffuser section and the quad exhaust tips on your "E63", please enlighten me with precisely what is the difference?

I await with anticipation your learned reply as I am always open to learning;

Regards,

ps: and by the way, you seem to be missing your E63 & AMG badge on your rear boot lid ... what happened?

I'm not trying to be an ******* and am sorry if you took it that way. You have a nice looking car and I'm not trying to knock it (except for that damn AMG badge, lol). There are the sport and appearance packages, having those on your car does not make it an AMG. The only cars that came with AMG badges from the factory are the E55 and E63 (for the E-Class in North America). If you see an AMG badge on an E500 it's because someone or a dealer slapped it on there. You specifically stated that your car has the same rear bumper as an AMG due to having the sport package (post #6 above), which is not true. Quad tips would not fit with yours nor would any aftermarket diffusers. Do they look similar? Definitely, but not the same. If I had someone start talking to me about their E500 AMG in person I'd have no qualms about letting them know it's not actually an AMG.

As for my badges, I took them off since I think it looks cleaner without them. I still have the 6.3 fender badges on the car but haven't decided if I want to take them off yet. I most likely will one of these days.

FWIW, "MBWorld Fanatic" is automatically generated by the forum based off time registered here and how much you post. Those titles, like newbie or super member, don't really mean anything.

Mr Strigoi (MBWorld Fanatic!),

Just to let you know that I have now fitted a magnificent "after market diffuser" and it fits PERFECTLY onto my rear sports pack bumper, contrary to your comment that "..Quad tips would not fit with yours nor would any aftermarket diffusers" as you had stated to me on February 28, 2018.

The quad tips have now also been fitted and it looks absolutely superb ...............

YOU WERE WRONG & NEED TO GET YOUR OWN FACTS STRAIGHT / OR GET MORE CONCLUSIVE INFORMATION BEFORE MAKING SUCH A BOLD CLAIM TO ME, AS YOU DID.

What's with you and this MBWorld Fanatic obsession? I told you, that title is automatically generated by the forum software.

Post up some pics of this diffuser you got. My saying it won't fit is because the people that sell them say they don't fit and the fact that your bumper is different than the E55/E63 one. E55 diffusers don't fit E63 bumpers but E63 ones can be made to fit an E55.

Well ........ your response to my reaching out in apology to you is certainly not what I expected as I had intended to show some pics of my new 'carbon fiber' difuser once taken, however, given your response to my apology (quote: "Still no pics. I'm calling BS.") I now have absolutely zero desire to show you anything.

Given that you joined this site in Jan 2010 (according to your profile "Strigoi") you have actually pushed me away from any further networking on this site with someone possessing an critical & petty attitude such as yours..

You may remember me saying back on February 27, 2018 that I joined this site with a view to having an enjoyable experience networking with other owners of the same marque regardless of what Mercedes one owns & without judgement.

Who are you to judge????

I would have expected that you as someone that has been associated with this website for 8 years YOU would be a a positive & encouraging ambassador of this site.

However, for the record (to the Administrator of this site) YOU have NOT made this a pleasant / enjoyable experience AT ALL ...... and it certainly saddens me that this is the outcome.

Sincerely,
Andrew.

It is now obviously apparent that you have nothing better to do with yourself but to be the supposed 'big critique'(all because of a badge) and NOW in attempting to as you put it: "I'm just going to keep stringing you along to see what you post next."

Rather than endeavoring to make amends & be friendly given that I have been apologetic & respectful to you as I have recently posted, YOU just want to keep stringing me along .... hahaha!

How pathetic and small minded one must be to have such an attitude ... sorry to say.

Finally, I have no desire nor any obligation whatsoever to prove anything to you nor to prove YOU to be anything (as it is really of no concern to me) given your small minded attitude .......... might I suggest that you take a long hard look in the mirror at yourself bud and don't hold your breath for anything further from me to you bud .... grow-up!

Post some pics of your perfectly fitting E55/E63 diffuser on an E500 bumper. That's all I ask.

You're the one that decided to bump this thread after 2 months saying you have a diffuser that fits perfectly. You're all talk.

That diffuser fit with no modifications on your stock E500 bumper? Yep, I don't see any other differences besides the diffuser. That exhaust setup strangely looks like it came off of an E55 or E63 but you said what you did worked with the stock exhaust and bumper. I guess it took you so long to reply since you were busy having a bumper painted to work with the diffuser.

Looks like you got it lowered a bit too, which does look better.

Firstly, as regards your last reply (quote): "I guess it took you so long to reply since you were busy having a bumper painted to work with the diffuser."

* I have no obligation whatsoever to in any way supposedly "REPORT BACK TO YOU PROMPTLY" once enhancements have been completed to my magnificent E500.
* Open your eyes bud and look a little more closely at the pics (before & after) .... do you actually think that I procured another bumper & had it painted to work with the diffuser?? ...... my answer is ....NO!!! (you should zoom-in on the before & after pics and you'll see that it's the exact original bumper ... no change & no painting whatsoever.
My original bumper was however removed in order to mount / fit the diffuser properly and then refitted.

Secondly, also with reference to your last reply (quote): "That exhaust setup strangely looks like it came off of an E55 or E63 but you said what you did worked with the stock exhaust and bumper."

* I never said anything about it working with the stock exhaust as if you go back to my very first post on February 26, 2018 and read it you will clearly see that I was looking to modify/enhance my exhaust for both a "beefier" exhaust note & to fit the 'quad-tips', hence the new diffuser....

For the benefit of other interested members of this site, I have had fitted a custom made from 'primary cat back' a dual 3 inch stainless steel system including an X-pipe and 6" Magnaflow rear mufflers and then the quad-tips which were purchased from Europe supplier.

I am extremely blown away by the finished result not only from a cosmetic perspective BUT also from a performance standpoint, not to mention the part of my original intent to generate a "beefier" exhaust note without any drone or excessive cabin noise intrusion.

Thirdly, I did install 'lowering links'(myself) to reduce the overall ride height, so at least thanks for your positive comment / observation of the ride height looking better.
