best ball joints?
What are the best lower ball joints for a W211? part no.
Are there heavy duty after-market options?
Ball joints replaced 2 years ago with TRW. Now left ball joint very noisy, needs to be replaced.

Lemförder Ball Joints for W211
2 years seems much too soon to need another replacement. Good replacement parts should last 90 000 mi (150 000 km) or more.
These are the Lemförder lower front ball joints for the W211. Lemförder is the consumer brand of ZF Friedrichshafen. ZF is an OEM supplier to MB, but I do not know if they supply the ball joints. These are very similar to the MB original part except for the color of the retaining rings (MB retaining rings are black). I would use them without question. In appearance they are much superior to the TRW. Detroit Axle (GM) also makes a replacement part but I have no experience with them.
I bought these for my 2003 E320, but could not use them because the car was totaled in an accident before the repair could be made. I have never seen any heavy duty replacements.
I still have them. Where are you located? If you are in the Houston, TX area I can make you a deal on them which you "cannot refuse." If not, the shipping cost would make it better to buy from Amazon where they are only $62.00.

I have not had to replace these yet, but I recall having read some members having good success with MOOG grease-able lower ball joints.
When the time comes I will certainly check them out.
If you scroll down all the way to 05-06-2017 you will find a post by member steeven001 where he talks about these in more detail:
