Where are my cabin filters??

2005 E500 with the 4 zone climate control.

figured this would be easy, but when I removed the panel under the glove box this it what I see. Was expecting some sliders for the filters but can't find anything?

MB plays roulette with cabin filter placing. Having 3 MB of different generations, I always have to think about it.
W211 has double-duty filter (single element) in hood gutter. Above the battery in SBC-equipped models.
But don't be surprised if 1 year different model of the same car might have drastic change.
Your best bet is manual.

mmm actually the manual wasn't any help. it doesn't even mention the under hood filter, yet alone the cabin filters

Yes. Those filters are impossible to judge by eye and once I found clean W211 with crush front on junk yard. Filter look clean, so I paid like $3 for it and only at home, using kitchen scale I was able to compare that my car filter was several oz heavier than the one from JY.
Both look clean to bare eye.
So if you plan to keep the car, weight new filter and record the weight for future referall.
