DI systems
if I remember correctly:
Direct Injection vs. port injection -
Rather than having a fuel injector spraying atomized fuel mixture into the intake port just behind the intake valve - and mixing the incoming air from the intake system.
The direct injection will shoot the fuel right into the combustion chamber via a higher pressure nozzle (relative to port injection).
Some of the benefits are that the intake manifolding has more leeway with designing the shape of the intake tract since an injector and the related fuel rail will not be a consideration in the packaging in respect to the upper area of the engine.
Some of the benefits with DI systems are more precise fuel metering, more fuel efficiency and in several instances, more power.

Should you wait for DI?
Obviously we are all waiting a very long time for our cars already, and each year several improvements from the engine to cosmetics with transpire...therefore get the new body as soon as possible and this way you will enjoy it the longest! If the improvements made over the next couple of years are significant enough to warrant trading in your car...you do it...if not, its not worth it! Sometimes there is way too much hype for some small technology which really does not make all that much difference anyways!
