2006 E350 4matic
2006 E350 4matic W211 steel suspension Sachs strut height

Hi all
I purchased 2 new front struts for my 2006 E350 4matic non-Airmatic suspension from a MB dealership. I purchased the parts they looked up and had in stock. A mechanic there told me to place the height ring on the 4th groove from the bottom, and that is exactly what I did without measuring the old struts. The old and new struts looked identical other than the color of their label, old was red, new was white. The old struts were disposed of in an environmentally safe manner and already long gone. After the installation finished the car seems a bit high in the front, and the ride is now perhaps a bit softer, with a bit more body roll in during cornering. Perhaps the red tag on the old strut means something? The dealer looked up parts by my VIN. After I mentioned to another MB mechanic that the ride looks a bit hi they told me they use the 2nd from the bottom groove on the new Sachs struts, not the 4th. Has anyone used new Sachs struts on the same car and remember which groove they used? Any information appreciated
cheers

I will attach the doc with the level angle measurements when I get home, I can't put the files in a useable format on work computers.

Check this out. Now that you have no more access to the original struts to match them up, you will have to measure and adjust from there. Yes it's tedious.
