2003 E500 Sedan change batt terminal, fob not working. Key not turning in ignition.
So two days ago I change a loose negative main battery cable end, unknowing set off the alarm. So shoved it back on unlocked car with fob started it to ensure I didn't set of anti theft systems. Then proceeded (with car off) with cable end replacement. Battery was disconnected for less than 3 minutes went to lock the car back to make connection was good and fob didn't work. Got in and key will not turn the ignition. Even the inside lock and unlock buttons stop working. Took fob to locksmith and he tested it and said it was perfect fine. Everyone I've called has never heard of this combination of issues. It has new main and aux battery. From what I've tested with a light all fuses are good. Can someone please give me some insight or at least enlighten me on how this happened? And what I should do for next course of action.

Did you ever get a replacement key ? Im having the exact same problem with almost the same combination of issues and I only have one key, did everything in my power from checking fuses to cleaning out the key fob inside and out and still nothing. The infrared light is not emitting from the key itself but when the key is inserted into the ignition the little red led below the panic button flashes for the first 10 seconds then stops. Anyone else had the same issue ?
