Question about 2009 E350 packages/trims
https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used...ting=228389195
I might get this.. it is listed on their website as a Sport 4MATIC, but how come the wheels and exhaust etc are different from other 2009 sport 4matics I’ve seen? All the other ones I’ve seen had dual exhausts and those nice 5 spoke wheels etc...you can’t even see an exhaust on this and it kind of looks plain? |
Simple, it's not really a sport model. It's a basic luxury model with the only option being P1 and the wooden steering wheel. Basically a base model. The sport package has the visible dual exhaust and the white gauges along with the headlamp washers. The 5 spoke wheels would be the AMG wheel package. It looks plain because it is plain.
Use this vin decoder to figure out what options it has: https://www.datamb.com/ Use this site to see the options available for the year, select the 4matic, then scroll down to the features tab click on it. https://www.motortrend.com/cars/merc.../e-class/2009/ Desirable options would be the P2 package which was bixenons/keyless go, panorama sunroof, power trunk closer folding rear seat, parktronic, real leather, etc. |
Cetialpha5 is correct - it's not a sport model at all.
A real sport model will also have black bird's eye maple trim. Plus, the steering wheel looks like it was installed later (unless my eyes deceive me), it doesn't match the rest of the trim. Anyways, welcome to the forum. |
The carfax does say the steering wheel was replaced for some reason...is it worth the buy? It’s the lowest miles I could find for under 10k

By the photos it appears to be in great condition - however just about everybody here will suggest getting a PPI by a dealer.
Personally I think the mismatched wood on the steering wheel is quite ugly. Although it being misrepresented as a sport model with P2 package may give you some bargaining power... if it was me, I'd keep looking. I drove 3 or 4 different 08s before finding the one I took home (sport with leather) and the standard suspension felt too disconnected from the road. Also note the sport package is appearance, not performance related. |
Well the sports package is mostly appearance but the suspension is lowered about an inch. I sometimes wish I had the luxury suspension as I think the sports is a bit too firm and harsh. It does handle well going through curves though. It was a no cost option in the later years so many cars had it, especially if they had any options. I got mine with as many options as I could find which wasn't easy. It's hard enough to find a car with P2. There were too many threads on here from people in the past who tried to retrofit Xenons to their halogens where if they just spent a tiny bit more, they would have had it from the start. Not an easy or cheap retrofit and the factory is much nicer and more expensive than anything you can do aftermarket.

they just wrote sport in the subject but its not, as already mentioned above. no dual exhaust AMG tips or amg wheels
The whole "sport" things confuses all the parts websites. personally the car you linked it really nice, but can be purchased on craigslist (via bank loan) I have seen for 5-8 thousand which is an incredible deal considering how nice these cars are. 09 lets you have the updated COMAND and option for rear backup camera. |
does anyone know if rotor diameters are the same between "sport" and "non sport" ?
330 vs 303mm? I think... |
Just a quick question to help me answer above..
if i have the AMG package does that mean I have a "sport" model? |

A true Sport has nicer front calipers, 4 piston. (I think) I have single pistons up from. All 2009 E350s up front use 13' or 330mm rotors. Sport models had them slotted/drilled. |

Going by the code is big help.Thinking about getting 2009 E350 sport package P1 or maybe W212. My 07 just got rear ended yesterday on freeway. With 135K I'm afraid it's totaled

Go to that Motor Trend site. You can just change the year in the URL for the particular year you're interested in. Once you select the model, you can scroll down and see the options it had. Next to the options are the option codes so when you run the vin decoder you can tell exactly what option the car has. Most of the time the dealers say silly things like power windows/power locks when those are standard on pretty much every car. Both my cars have P2 as that's what I looked for to start. Much harder to find. P1 is pretty much standard, there are very few cars that don't have P1. For W212, I would get the 2012+ just for the 302hp engine and you avoid the intake manifold issue that's ticking away on a M272 engine.
