Car in for service, comes back with over 250 mile driven
I brought my car in for service today and somehow over 250 miles were put on it.
I cannot prove it because they only put the after service mileage on the service record.
I know what I had on the car when it went in and THEY reset my trip computer.
Without much proof do you guys think I have anything to scream about? And if I do who should I scream to? the service manager the dealership' general manager, the owner?
Thanks for any advice

Was it only in for one day? For 250 miles to be put on they would have to drive over 4 hours straight at 60 mph. Are you absolutely positive about the miles you had on the odo? Could you have transposed a digit when you last looked at it? eg. it really ended in 520 and you "saw" 250?? Just a thought - not trying to say you are in the wrong or anything. Talk to the service mgr and see if there was anything funny about the service call. Don't the techs keep track of the hours they work on a car, esp. for warranty work? Good luck either way.

My MB service center always asks how many miles are on the car before they take it in. It should be standard for all service centers to do so. I would contact the GM of the service center but only after you have attained some proof of the mileage before it went in. Otherwise, you can only complain and just see how far it'll get ya in their eyes... I would be so pissed at that instant to say someything and not wait..
Good luck with it and let us know the results..

I just heard a similiar story at a local BMW dealer. Guy picked up his car and had 200 extra miles on it. Also, had an expensive pair of sunglasses stolen. My mileage is always recorded when i drop the car off on the paperwork they give me. Don't know why they all don't do that.

BMW records the mileage from the smart key. Among other things, it has the current mileage, and I think current error codes.

There are several of us interested in which dealer is in the spotlight. I haven't had an MB service visit yet so I don't know what my dealer's mileage recording procedure is. Good luck with your investigation.

This happened to me in my M3. Yes the record in and out mileage, but they CHANGED or inacurately recorded the numbers. Pissed me off.. Also, I left my benz overnight and had 74 miles on it. I authorized a tech to test drive it but not take it home!! They said NOTHING about taking the car home, just test drive. BS... This happens a lot.

At the very least, since there isn’t solid proof other than your word, all dealerships involved will be instructed by MBUSA to record the in/out mileage so this doesn’t repeat itself.

This same kind of thing happened to me also. I noted down the mileage when I gave the car in, and it was about ~40 miles more when I got it back (not quite 250 I admit). On the ticket though it showed only 2 miles. I asked about it and the SA said that they techs are lazy and they don't note the in mileage all the time and just put 2 miles less than the out mileage when they finally do the paperwork. That is totally bogus in my opinion.
Also, my radio settings were all messed up, BASS kicked up high and fader set to the rear. The thing that pissed me off was that when I got upset with the SA about it, he wanted to just blow it off and wanted to talk about the things wrong with the car.
I'm not going back to that dealer anymore...how this kind of thing happens with MB is shameful, someone at MBUSA should be fired, because this is just a lack of oversight. I would be interested to see how many complaints like this have been filed with them...

How can anyone go to a dealership and argue about an event thay may or may not have happened with absolutly no facts / proof??? Personally I think I'd just forget about it and claulk one up for experience.... But next time make sure they note the milage.
