SOS Tele Aid Malfunction Drive to workshop
I have a 2006 CDI with $187K miles, looks and runs like the day I got her.
My NAV became disoriented a few months ago; thought we were 300 miles away or in the middle of a lake, and I just ignored it using WAZE when needed.
Just the other day, this message appears everytime I start the car:
(phone icon appears) "SOS Tele Aid malfunction Drive to workshop".
After reading the forum, appears this is not uncommon?
How do I determine what the problem is and then remedy it?
Any help is greatly appreciated, and THANKS in advance.
If you don't have SOS, then the SOS message comes on when the computer thinks there's a problem with it related to battery voltage. If you turn on the headlights for two minutes with the engine off it puts a drain on the battery. Later when you start the car, it notices that the voltage doesn’t match the memory value and resets the battery voltage reading in the computer. With the value reset, as the car charges up it decides it has enough voltage and turns off the SOS.
1. turn key to run but don't start
2. burn headlights for two minutes
3. turn key off
It might show the message the next time but that SHOULD BE the end of it... until next time.

But eight years was today. I’ve done it again and will find out tomorrow if it is still a fix. The connectors are more corroded this time.
BTW, although not horrible, there are a hundred fasteners to remove to get at these connectors.
