Phones in '05s and 04's Echo?
Have they changed the hands free phone system in the 04 or 05 E Class? Mine still echos and the dealer says that MB says just to turn down the volume. Well if I turn it down any more I can't hear the person on the other end. I am suspicious that it is not a volume problem because the ecko comes and goes as I drive down the road. I am curious if it could be a hardware problem and thus my question. Have they changed the hardware and do any 04 and/or 05 owners have the echo problem.
Thanks in advance for responses,
Brad

Not sure I'm having the same problem as you. I've got a 2002 v60 in the cradle. Seems to be working fine on the in-car end, but people on the other end say my voice is muffled as those you're talking right into the mouthpiece. Understandable, but not clear. Using Verizon. Could be that the v60, while functional, was not intended for this car. Need to have the dealer check it when it gets in for the 1-2K mile free check-up.

I've got an '04 custom build w/handsfree comm and voice control.. I use this feature A LOT.
I've encountered the echo issue once (not sure under what conditions), and the "muffled" issue frequently. However, pointing the air vents away from the microphone (mirror) seems to reduce the degree of muffledness.

What phone do you have? Is it a V-60?

Yeah, I have the echo too. It does vary with noise conditions. Standing still seems best. So it does seem that ambient sound is part of the problem. Since I don't like speaking loudly anyway, I usually plug in my headset for long calls or if I'm making several calls. Very high sound quality in the ear and back to the listener with no raised voices. I use the Plantronics MX150 (available at Verizon, AT&T and others) with the half size boom mic and the under ear rubber flap. Most people have said they thought I was calling form my office even at freeway speeds. (Of course, the car is quiet!) If you plug the headset into the top of the V60 (mine is V60s) and string it out through the top of the consle compartment, the split cover closes easily.

Here is the module that is changed. You need an entirely new module since the software could not be updated by flashing it. The box is located at the back of the trunk. Echo is no longer there.
