A/C major leak, help!!!
For the last week or so i've been trying to figure this out but now i am stuck. I was sitting in my car right after starting it up and turned on the AC and noticed white smoke start pouring out from under the hood. I had my door open and could smell that it was refrigerant leaking, so i immediately turned off the AC. When AC was turned off, no refrigerant was leaking. I tried again to see if I could maybe see where it was coming from, but so much refrigerant leaked that i couldn't see anything under the hood.
Just to point some things out, I replaced the AC compressor about 2 years ago (new part from stealership) and did a proper AC refill with vacuum (not the cheap autozone stuff). The AC worked perfectly until now.
Today I tried again to see where it could be coming from, and this time I had refrigerant blowing through my vents into the cabin. It's strange because it's leaking so much refrigerant but the ac compressor clutch still engages. Tomorrow i'm going to try and get my hands on some gauges so I can see the high and low side pressures, but until then I'm clueless and stuck on what to do. Any ideas on what could be causing such a huge leak in the entire system?
You might consider using flourescent dye to find the leak.
