The Original Comand/Nav Concept for the '03s
The reason I ask is because in the 2003 (USA) E Class sales brochure on the page labled 7:30 PM, footnote # 2 states that "Availability of Comand is delayed. See your dealer.... Comand can play a CD in the DVD drive when not navigating."
That would seem to indicate to me a different head unit/Nav design than is in my '04, which has no DVD read capability in the Head Unit, but does have a DVD/Nav unit in the trunk. ... and we know that the Nav disc IS a DVD. It would also suggest to me that the single slot would always have the Nav DVD inserted in it, & would have to be removed to listen to a music cd, if a CD stacker had not been ordered. It would also explain why the last few '03s shipped to the US with the delayed Nav capability, can read DVDs. Was there originally a different plan with NO trunk mounted Nav DVD reader as was adopted for the '04s?
