Qestions re: shifting

I wanted to know if anyone had this problem...

I have an 04 e320 and when I shift manually... It skips 2nd gear and goes straight to 3rd. so...1st to 3rd no second... this only happens when I am shifting at 5000 rpms... It does not skip any other gear but 2nd... If anyone knows about this please let me know...

The great thing about the 7 speed is that it will skip gears when needed. Maybe it does this on the 5 speed.

if you are climbing the RPMs and get near the fuel cut off / rev limiter point, it'll automatically shift for you to prevent damage to the engine and tranny. So if you are manually shifting it at that high of a RPM, it may be that by the time you flick your wrist to shift it, it may already have reached the cut off point, shifted for you to 2nd already and then the computer registers that you want to upshift VIA the touch-shift, it'll move into 3rd cuz the car already put it in 2nd for you.

so basically, it auto-upshifted to prevent damage = 2nd gear and by the time you shifted, you were already in 2nd and therefore shifting to 3rd.

HTH. :)
