Ok..Replacement for Conti's... Sound Off!!
Help me out fellow Benz bros.
Was thinking about Pirelli P Zero Neros or Michellin PS 2's.... or your input. Looking for killer grip on corners and overall handling. No need for all season or extended life...just want performance. What are you using and what do you think about um? Thanks Guys. |

Definitely Michelin PS 2's.

Should check out the tire forum as there is a wealth of knowledge there. Also I believe a TireRack rep frequents that forum so he may be of assistance to you.

1. PS2's
2. SO-3's |
Is it correct that the PS2s won't go on the original-equipment E500 wheels (245/45-17)? The Michelin and Tirerack web sites don't list PS2s in that size and don't list PS2s as an option for the E500, presumably meaning that they won't fit on the OEM wheels. I don't like the Contis that came with my car, but I have no problem with the wheels and don't especially want to change them just to fit the PS2s, as good as they seem to be.

I have the Neros.....they are good but I would think for your application to go with the Michelin Pilot Sports or S03 which are better grip in dry performance. I've had the G-Force T/A KD and the PZero Rossos which aren't bad.

Jakpro1 - I have the Pirelli PZero Rossos installed as my summer tires. I have been very happy with them in terms of grip. Exit ramps take on a whole new meaning! I went to 18" rims so I pay a bit of a penalty in terms of stiffness, due to the shorter sidewall. Call Luke at the Tire Rack and he can give you some good info.

I've had all three, go with the Pilot's. :y

Thanks for all the help you guys.
Great info....
I did find that forum Luke from Tirerack.com started... Here is the link to it for future reference. Cheers. https://mbworld.org/forums/wheels-tires-suspension-brakes-forum/68013-tires-ones-best-revised-03-25-2011-a.html |
Yeah, everything I've heard about the PS2's has been good. And the regular Pilot Sports have also been highly acclaimed. The A/S's are crap, though.
I always consider the S03 to be a superb tire as well, but the notion is that they wear fast. The tire forum is a great place to start, and Luke is very informative. |
I had S02's (much like the S03's) on my previous car. The performance was outstanding however they lasted about 10 or 12K miles and were completely worn out. No racing or burn-outs, just normal spirited driving. They were also very nasty until they warmed up. Don't dare step on the gas when the weather is cold and the tires have not warmed up.

Dunlop all the way
I have a set of Dunlop SP9000 on my 19". I cannot tell you how awesome these things are. They are a bit costly ($250/piece) but I have taken a 35mph off ramp at 70mph with them and the car didn't budge. If you guys wanna try this there is a great place to do it. In Socal, on 22E, take the 5N off ramp. When you get in that turn let her rip. The ESP + my SP9000 grip that sucker like white on rice. I just put a pair of Dunlop 208s on my Bike and have to say that i am now a die-hard fan of this company for life. Its the first time I have been able to scrape the footpegs of my 919 in the city without having to change underwear.
Oh and the SP9000 look absolutely SICK on that car. Just an awesome combo with 19". I don't have a great picture of them right now but this shows the thread a bit. Okay I'll shut up. Ahh these tyres rock!!!!!! http://www.nogalis.com/~benzcrazy/P1010214.JPG |
