"Number plate light not working" - wrong, but it won't clear.
Hello. S211 ´08 E280 wagon here.
Can I clear error messages in the computer somehow? I fixed the number plate light, but it still claims error whenever I start the car. I have a BlueTooth ODB2 plug, but Torque says there are no fault codes to clear. To make a short and boring story long and boring instead: I got the error message that my left number plate light was out. It was indeed burned out. I replaced it. Still would not come on. I rolled the bulb around. It would flicker, so: corroded contacts? I disassembled the socket and cleaned it thoroughly. Both lamp sockets while I was at it, because if the left one is faltering the right may also any time now. I put the stuff back, and both lamps work great. Except that whenever I turn on the ignition, I get a message: "LEFT PLATE LAMP DEAD, RIGHT PLATE LAMP DEAD". I went into the service menu (ignition on, push Reset three times, voltage menu) and erased everything I could find. No difference. Still get an error message every time I turn it on, even though both lamps operate as they should. Anyone have a clue as what I should do now? Get a better ODB2-thing? Thank you in advance for any usable information! |
Get iCarsoft MB V2.0 or similar, Mercedes specific scanner. Those general scanners usually don't go deep enough to the system.

Thank you very much for this valuable advice!
That scanner market is a jungle, I appreciate guidance. |
The error should clear itself after a few cold starts.

Aight, cool. Thanks!
Going to get that scanner anyway. I like tools. |
The error did not clear itself, but a bit of poking with the iCarsoft device fixed it.
It also fixed an error where the front power windows would not "auto-close" - the last half year I have had to hold the button all the way up. Now it works as it should. |
And another Icarsoft has paid for itself.:D
