Don't currently own a vehicle.
Question Question about vehicle setup

I am considering getting an E500, the only thing is one, if I have to get that rediculous looking center console arm rest, there is no way I'm going to get it. Which looking like that may be the case, but anyway, two, I want to know if anyone has this setup or if this setup is possible, I want to get the interior from the "Appearance Package" and the exterior of the "AMG Package", I don't care about paying the full price for the "Appearance Package", even though they wouldn't be making the exterior changes for that package. Oh and I know that an easy thing would be to just buy the E55 AMG, but I don't want to spent the extra $15,000 for it. I sent an email to the local MB Dealership but they haven't gotten back to me on the issue.

I hope that I didn't confuse anyone.

Yes, I believe you can get both although I know that some have been told you cannot..

At 1st I hated the new console. It will grow on you. I think now it was a good change because it has essentially the same profile as the old one except that the cup holders have been moved inside the console & now, apparently hold cups! I sat in a car with the new console & it is just as comfortable for me to rest my arm on (6ft2in). Maybe, just maybe the other one was instantly defined as a work of art, but it really didn't have any useable cupholders, no matter that they unfolded with the grace of a ballerina.

The car is an awesome automobile. Lightyears ahead of its predecessor, and a very real contender in its class. It performs well, runs like a top, and is a joy to drive. I must say that I am told by men & women alike at stoplights that the car is beautiful. This is the 1st car I have ever owned that I wasn't out shopping for its replacement (so I'd be ready) within 6 months!

Don't pass the experience up because they changed a console. They all will be like that from now on.

I wish we could trade. You prefer better cupholders over a better armrest. I prefer a better armrest. As for the cupholders, I actually liked the old ones better with just one cupholder and the other emtpy slot as a cupholder. It worked well for me whenever I drove an E-class of that version. Now, although the cupholders are "bigger & better" (as they say), you have to have the tambour door open to use it and that takes away whatever was left of a so-called armrest. Furthermore, there is no storage space - NONE!

I do see how this console can be a deal breaker.

Didi't think about the top having to be open to use the holders. That would leave no armrest. Not an ingenious fix, but the car is awesome. Unless you are ordering, there are plenty of '05s around with the old armrest & probably still a few '04s w/ "free" service...
