Got a dealer performing lowering via airmatic

Alright folks, got my new whip on Saturday (2003 E500, peweter metallic with ash, multi-contour seats, drive dynamic seats, in-dash CD changer) and absolutely love it! Coming from the BMW world (granted that this car was originally twice as expensive as my 2001 325i) I am amazed how much comes standard and how comfort and luxury oriented Benzes are.

Anyway, will post pics after the tint, CL grille, exhaust tips and my new 19"s are on (in a week or so).

Now, for the most important part of the message - the dealer I got it from (Viti Mercedes in Rhode Island) agreed to lower the car for me via airmatic. They did a fabulous job following the instructions posted here (they didn't know how to do it before I showed them the printout of the post): https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/74738-lowering-w211-airmatic-via-das.html They lowered it 0.75" (I initially asked for 1 full inch but the service technician said I might have rubbing issues in the front with the new wheels so only lowered it 1"). Airmatic still works which is awesome. Call them (401-624-6181) and ask to speak to Gene in the Service department (their foreman), tell him Sergiu Vlad whom he lowered an E500 for referred you. My dealer (Richard Marcus) was unbelievable, I highly recommend him, and he told me it was ok to refer people to their service department for this mod.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Actually, I think 0.75" is about the max you can get with the computer without getting into weirdness with alignment settings and being out of spec on the voltages. I doubt many wheels are going to rub at only 1" and not at 3/4", so you may have been given a "deflecting story".

It's possible, however it looks pretty good with just 0.75" and the OEM 16"s. I can't wait to put the 19"s on...

What exhaust tips are you going with and what is involved to install them? I am interested in maybe adding AMG tips to my car. Thanks!

I am getting the Brabus style tips (one tip per side), I will see how it looks just hooked to the exhaust, also considering cutting the bumper for a better fit.

Will post pics tomorrow, as I said, even with the OEM 16"s it looks so much better. When I picked it up they had it parked in front next to a 2005 E55 and it was maybe a hair lower than that. Since they lowered a vehicle through the airmatic for the first time everyone knew about it and all the dealers agreed it looked a lot better than stock (when I asked them to do it they implied it might look cheap).

With the Airmatic suspension, does the car lower itself automatically 0.6"/15mm every time I put in in Sport I or Sport II, or does lower itself automatically only when it's going like 75mph/120kph? It's easy enough to see (and hear) the car raise itself by 1"/26mm when I press the gitty-on-up button, but I can't see that it lowers itself at all when I put the Airmatic in Sport I or II at idle. I'm still trying to figure out a way to measure how much it lowers itself, if at all, at 75 mph+ .... I may have to take that on faith.

Check this thread. I have it lowered a little over an 1"-1.25"

Disregard the first picture, but the others are more indicative.
