Need expert help- charging problems 06 E320 diesel
Two different shops have been on this car and no one can figure out the problem
Car has 330,000 miles on it and I don’t think it has ever had an alternator
left the lights on 30 minutes and it started up and ran fine for 30 Minutes after
then red battery light, first shop thought alternator and replaced it
To me acted like voltage regulator problem
but they insisted it was something else
was not impressed with first shop so took it to my regular shop , they replaced the alternator and we are still having the same problems
Not charging
is charge controlled through the rear or front Sam?
any suggestions?

Poor batteries will also make these cars mystifying: low battery voltages will trigger lots of codes. Start with the basics: load test of main battery.
There should never be a case where an alternator is replaced without first verifying that it's in fact in need of it: generally a good idea for just about everything, but tossing parts at electrical issues can become very expensive in a hurry.

At 200,000 miles, I replaced the brushes on my alternator figuring they would be worn out but they had 90% of the life left in them. Yikes! But 330,000 miles! I’m impressed.
