CDI Milage

My CDI has a little over 3K miles. Since new I have been getting about 29 to 30 MPG (US) with my local driving. I just returned from a trip to Florida where I did about 620 miles with an average speed of 73MPH and only had 1 stop each way. My expectation was that I would beat the 37 MPG easily, but I only got 33 MPG. The dealer said that it was within the range and everything checked out ok. This is a little disappointing. Have anyone else had similiar expreiences?

This car has been relatively problem free compared to others I have owned from new. The only problems I have had are 1) one time, I could not get fuel in the car. It took about 30 minutes to get it half way. Since then no problems and none found by the dealer. 2) Navigation went out, and did not return until I shut down and waited a couple of hours. Dealer said their was a DVD Nav. update. So far, this car has been solid and I would give it a strong recomendation. I only wish the price of diesel would come down and my milage would improve.

Too many variables to say why you are getting the mpg currently. IUt could be driving patterns, wind/rain, engine temp, stop an go traffic. It took me a while but now I'm achieving approx 27 mpg city , 39 highway and mixed 31mpg. This is after 5K miles. Drive on and be happy.

You cannot tell anything from a single tank of fuel. Check it over several tanks and take the average. Also, take the computer mileage with a grain of salt. I found on a 4,600 mile trip that it was optimistic by at least 1 to 2 MPG.

I have a gasoline engine E 320. I also found the trip computer to be "optimistic." When the car was in for service, I complained and apparently there is a way to adjust the trip computer. The trip computer is now pretty accurate.

I never had occasion to verify the other display about miles left in the tank. If it was halfway accurate, it would be far more useful to me than the the one that displays average fuel economy.

I was fascinated with the mileage display for a while and decided it wasn't what was important. What was important was when I needed to start looking for a gas station.

Scrub round my suggestion of one neighbour. Your running the national grid!!
When you put the car in the garage, SWITCH OFF the engine.

Those are imperial gallons, in the US I'm getting 26-30 in city type driving and 32-36 mpg interstate type driving

You people are getting me depressed with your high mpg's. But no worries. I am keeping an eye on it. The dealer said do a few tankfuls and I am only on my third one.

I bought the car second hand last month with 2000 miles on the clock and it spent the last 5 months before the purchase in a driveway and not being driven at all.

Hi,
Hopefully you are taking my remarks in the humorous (hope that is spelt right?) way it is intended.

An average of 17mpg is way off the scale, and our US friends have already started complaining about the price of fuel. Over here we have to take out a second mortgage every time we fill the fuel tank .

It is all well and good your dealer saying go away and waste your money on fuel. Why doesn't he jump into a 320CDI and look at the fuel it is using compared to yours??????

In my humble personal opinion, IF you are not doing anything other than driving your car in a 'normal' fashion the fuel consumption is way off the scale of narmality.

Good luck though with your 3rd, fourth and fifth tanks of fuel.

Regards,
John

71 pounds is roughly what in US dollars? I thinki we all here (in the US of A) would feel better if we knew how expensive fuel is in Europe.

It's a lot.

At today's awful exchange rate, it's about US$130.

My understanding was that gasoline hovered around $1/liter in
Europe, but that diesel was significantly less. (A liter is a little more than a quart, 4 quarts to the gallon, you get the idea.)

I guess I'll get to find out firsthand on my ED trip next month.

It works out at about $130.
Diesel used to be a bit cheaper in the uk but of course the goverment noticed that sales of diesel vehicles were up so the tax went up on diesel and its about the same as regular unleaded now. Diesel is cheaper in France and Spain but not sure about anywhere else. Roughly how much does it cost to fill up a E320 CDI over in the States?
