Steeper Discounts - West Coast?

I have been hearing a lot about bigger discounts on the west coast than east coast. What is the reasoning for the larger discounts on one side of the country???

IMHO - I’m thinking supply & demand. CA leads the nation in MB dealerships and naturally sales. Most especially in southern CA there is cut throat competition to move vehicles so allotments can be increased yet again.

I was surprise too. I went to checked out a used 03 E320 and walk out with brand new 05 E500. Sticker was $67.5 and got it for $56.5K. Yes, they have tons of brand new in the lot, I agree it is supply and demand...

Thanks!

If it is an issue of supply and demand, then the lower West Coast prices means that the supply far exceeds the demand, which doesn't say much about the economy, especially on the West Coast. I'm thinking the Bay Area and Seattle are leading the way. They are the hardest hit areas of the country with regard to the tech bubble burst and technology outsourcing.

Me too. I don't know why. That's why I picked it up right away. Base plus all the options... the sticker became $67.5K (before tax). Yes, it is new 05 with the August 04 build date with less than 10 miles on the odometer.

I told them that I need some time to think about it and I saw another car with less options and cost less. Then they ask me that if they can match the price with more options, will I buy it now, then I said "sure". Few mins later, I end up the Keyless go in my pocket... There is no reason for me to bs my price. I just want to share my true experience with the poster.

Thanks!

I think it's more competition between dealers as opposed to Supply vs. Demand. I think there are at a minimum 6 MB dealers within 50 miles of each other in the SoCal area. They want to sell their cars to everyone so they will do anything to get that sale. If they have to drop their price to prevent the customer from walking over to the other dealer, then that's just the way it is. From the customer perspective, it's all good.

Lots of demand in Seattle. All the MB dealers have had outstanding years. MB's (and Lexus & BMW.s) are very common all thru the Seattle metro area.
Malls and stores are crowded with shoppers at all times.

Looks like you may be using some questionable sources for your information as regards Seattle.

11K of MSRP is a lot for a E500. I used to work for Mercedes-Benz of Long Beach in their fleet dept. Until November 5th there is a -$1500 automatically rebate if you finance or lease through MBCC and -$2000 below invoice. We rolled out those deals everyday of the week.

Yes, my deal is thru MBCC. I guess they use my interest to make it up. At the end I paid less than $70K with tax for 5 years.

Thanks!

Would it be worth it on the east coast to buy from the west and ship it east?

There are a number of people on this forum who have done this.
PM marcusbenz (member) and he can give you some names of who has ordered from him and you can check with them for experience as to how it went.

I think it is just a math game. I suggest call around in LA/SF dealers and get few written quotes then add about $900 indoor and $1,800 outdoor coast to coast transport charge and then go to your local dealer and see can they meet/beat the deal. But I think it is more to do with what the dealer have in their inventory.... The longer that car sit there (interest to the bank), the better discount they will discount for you (pay off to the bank) IMO.

Thanks!
