w211 Estate/Wagon coilover front and pneumatic system in back?

Hi All,

I know the Airmatic suspension has been discussed numerous times, but I hope a few of you will be patient and helpful with my questions.

I purchased a 2004 E500 4matic with BC BR Coilovers in front and back (replaced control arms). Unfortunately, two must be rebuilt, so the car is extremely bouncy. I'm too old for all that cray bouncing.

I'm considering buying a new set of coilovers, but I'd prefer to have coilovers up front and airmatic springs(Arnott and B4's) in the rear. Is that possible, and has anyone done that? I think the w212 wagons only have bags in the back?

Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

e350 4matic wagon 2009
w211 wagon,s which I believe you have has self leveling air springs in the back only. My 2009 4 matic wagon has coils in front, airbags in back. I replaced them using the Arnott bags a few years ago but I don't know how to convert coils to springs. Hopefully someone else will chime in and advise you. But my point is that the 211 wagon is the car that had these so maybe you're in business.

thx for the feedback. My e500 had airmatic on all 4 corners, but I'd like to set it up like yours. I just need to make sure it's possible so I know what to buy. I'm getting closer to my answer. thx

As your car already had the Airmatic, there's a good chance that you have all the electrical components and airlines there. Not sure can the Airmatic be set just for the rear, but you could de-pin the Airmatic control unit electrical connector and use the needed wires and components for the self-leveling rear.

Wiring diagram for the self-level is in linked post:

Automatic and rear SLS are 2 different systems. The only component that share is the pump. Different controller, harness, shocks, airbags.
