W211 E320 2002 - 2009 Instrument Cluster

Greetings

My vehicle is a W211 E320 2002 model, with panoramic roof.

Rainwater seeped into the area behind the dash - Drivers side. This was due to a perished lower rubber seal on the front windscreen. Has been repaired.

Started the vehicle. Had a warning message regarding the SRS. Pressed the Up arrow on the steering wheel. Everything went haywire. All instruments in the cluster died.
Only the Clock, Speedometer and Tachometer remained operative. After a day or so later the Clock stopped working. The Speedometer stuck at 120 k/h. A day or two later the Tachometer stopped working and the Speedometer returned to 0.

Instrument cluster was removed. NO water / moisture was found.

The Drivers footwell carpet was removed and all water dried up, as well as all visible wiring. Fuses in the footwell were also checked - all okay.

Fuses boxes in Boot, Interior (Drivers' side) and engine area checked all okay. IC on Instrument Cluster was heated to reseat connections.

When connecting the battery (New) a RED Backlight is temporarily displayed on the Instrument cluster. Dimmer light switch for dash not working, although there is a display.

None of the remote controls on the steering wheel are operative.

Can someone please assist?

Thanking you in advance

Greetings Plutoe

Reading and trying ALL possible solutions found, relating to Instrument Cluster failure.

Will be rechecking all electrical connections in the footwell, as well as in the knee cover area.

Any suggestions?

Search done. Found video - Mercedes-benz instrument cluster repair.mp4 - on YouTube.

As I am not familiar with the intricacies of an Auto Electrician, and am desperate to correct this error, well, what more can I say. "The blind leading the blind?"

I am situated on the coast, and as Salt air / moisture has such high corrosive properties, anything is possible. The coastal area where i am situated is one of 2 places in the world where sea air has the Highest corrosive conditions.

Thanks

Despite efforts to dry out the affected areas and check fuses, the cluster is malfunctioning with various displays and controls not functioning properly. The symptoms—initially triggered by an SRS warning and exacerbated when pressing the steering wheel's Up arrow—suggest possible damage to the instrument cluster itself, likely due to water exposure causing electrical shorts or corrosion on critical components within the cluster. To diagnose and resolve this issue, I recommend running a full system scan using a comprehensive diagnostic tool capable of accessing the instrument cluster and other related control modules. Given the complexity and integration of modern vehicle electronics, there should be fault codes stored that pertain to the malfunctioning instruments and controls. These fault codes will provide valuable insights into the specific electrical faults causing the cluster's erratic behavior. If you're looking to troubleshoot this yourself, investing in a full system scanner like the youcanic full system scanner can help you pinpoint and address the underlying electrical issues.
