Lifter tick after changing oil cooler

I just did some preventive maintenance, new hoses, thermostat, water pump and Nissens oil cooler. At first re-start it sounded fine, then starts a lifter tick on the passengers side. I'm concerned that the new cooler is causing a restriction, or I made an odd ball mistake. I own and repair 10 vehicles in our family, I'm wondering if this happens often. Car is a well maintained 179K miles.

My 2004 E320 (V6), 130,000 miles, has always had a bit of lifter click on startup, the noise subsides farily quickly.

Let it warm up, does it stll click when warm?

This is just an anecdote and not a solution.

My 2003 E320 (M112) got to the point where it “didn’t like” the 0W-40 oil I had been using for 130k miles. Around 150k miles it suddenly developed a single click after an oil change. On the next oil change I used a different brand 5W-40 and the click disappeared. That shouldn’t have helped because both oils were 40 at operating temperature. Was it the brand of oil I was using? On a subsequent oil change I went back to the original brand 0W-40 because I had it in bulk. The click didn’t return. It was still silent when the car was retired.

in my mind, the click came from some component other than the valve train, but what is a mystery.

Welcome to the 10 vehicle club.
