Follow-up posters there said it worked equally well on the 5 and 7 series fuzzy cloth covers.

We use the referenced "Goof Off" (not to be confused with "Goo Gone" which is oil based and not for fabric) in our office buildings for removing dried glues, old stickers, tape, etc. It works well, even on fabrics. Has anyone tried this stuff on the stickers?

 

While sitting in traffic one day, I decided to see if I could get the stickers off. Just started pulling on them slowly. Came right off and left no reside behind. I'm so glad I did this, didn't need any chemicals, just pull slowly and they will come off.

 

I F'd mine up (driver side) left the passenger side. Must have been too cold. Heat might help loosen up the glue. Left very fine tears in the cloth. sucks..

 

I have not removed the stickers off this one yet. BUt I did remove the ones from our 2000 E430 4 Matic (don't have the car anymore). I did it slowly (it was a cold day in COlorado) and it cam off fine. I think that the key is to do it very slowly.

I don't know if I will take mine off this time.

I think the key is to warm them up first. Might try a hair dryer, then SLOWLY pull 'em off as others have advised. My E500 stickers came off easily. The ML is another story.

 

It was a very hot day when I pulled them off so that may have helped keep the glue soft. Don't know if that had anything to do with it, but I do recall it being in the summertime and it's always hot here. Using a hairdryer to warm them up is probably a good idea if you are in a cold climate.

 

screwed up my car the first day I had it. I think I was actually driving home from the dealer. Driver's side came off fine, leaned over to do passenger side and it left a little piece of the sticker. Like an *** I picked and then rubbed and now I have a nice little black stain on the visor. Pisses me off every time I look at it.

 

I hate stickers, so I had the dealer remove them before I took delivery.

The Goof Off trick looks good but why not ask the dealer if they will do it (or at least how they do it) next time you are in for service. These things drive me nuts! Will we ever be free of the help we get from corporate lawyers and their CYA notices? Buy an appliance and check out the "owners manual"! The first 5-10 pages are warnings!

 

here's a thought: remove the stickers the best you can. if the sunvisor gets damaged, take it to the dealer (or maybe wait till your next service visit) and tell your service advisor that the sunvisor fabric is deformed, or discolored, or coming apart or whatever and they'll probably replace it under warranty.
also, when the new sunvisors come out of the parts box, they have no stickers on them. make sure you tell them you don't want the stickers on there.

 

Um, how do you explain the fact that the visors are damaged right where every other car has warning stickers? Thats like standing with a smoking gun in your hand & insisting you didn't kill the guy in front of you!

 

Next time you have an opportunity, would you mind asking them how they did it?

 

as a dealer tech, i replace customer-damaged parts under warranty quite often. usually, a mercedes-benz dealership is more concerned with making a customer satisfied and will not call you a liar. but just in case they do, break off those little vanity mirror doors and say they fell off. it happens all the time.

Last week the temperature was in the mid 80's so I parked the car in the sun to warm up and . . . the nasty yellow stickers came off the sun visor fabric and plastic. I cleaned up small amounts of adhesive residue with Energine (naptha).

It's as if they were never there!

 

I asked my Dealer to remove them when I took delivery. They said it was against the law for them to do it, but I was welcome to try. They did mention that they would fix any boo-boos in case I screwed up.

 

Unlike TPAbnz, our temperature was 29 degrees F (brrr) and I used a hair dryer and the Home Depot "Quickie" brand equivalent of Goof Off.

Both the front (on fabric) and back (on mirror door) stickers came off perfectly except that the passenger side sticker lifted the fabric nap where the two ends of the sticker were. It's pretty subtle, but a little annoying. I think more heat would have helped.
