Have been reading this forum for the last couple of weeks, waiting for my 05 E320 CDI. Just picked it up this morning, and I'm really impressed. Got the brilliant silver w/ stone, premium package, heated seats. There's a lot to learn about these cars, and appreciate the insight I've gained so far. I hope that I don't have the difficultities with mine, that you're shared. However, if they happen, I'll have the benefit of your experiences.

Congratulations on your purchase! I personally would have loved to buy the CDI, but it is not available in a 4 Matic
Hopefully you will not have any problems with your car, but if you do, they should be relatively minor. This car is so complex and modern that you sometimes have to expect some problems.
The two things that I really could consider problems on my car have been a leaky ring seal for the front 4 Matic drive axel and the driver’s door lock that only sometimes acts up but will get replaced next week. I don’t consider software upgrades a real problem.
I am sure you will love the car so much that even if you do have a few problems you will not find them to shatter your perception of the car. It is like gourmet food; it is good enough o put up with snooty servers in the restaurant.
Keep us posted on how things go! & Congrats,
Steven Aguirre

Congratulations!
3K miles on ours and the only problems so far have been operator error/ignorance! There is a major learning curve involved in buying this car.
I'm very pleased with our CDI and I'm sure you will be with yours. Enjoy.

congrats
I have had my CDI for a week now and love it. Im sure you will enjoy yours also. I had to read the manual on this one just to get everything down. Your car should also have digital Tele aid no more per minute charges.

I'm, excited for you. You will love this car and after having the CDI for 5 months, it is honestly the best car I have ever driven. The CDI's fuel economy is just one of the many perks to driving a modern diesel. The torque (phenomenal power bandwidth) and engine longevity are also amazing with the CDI. Don't forget to post your experiences to add to the many helpful threads on this board. Enjoy and congrats!

This forum is a good place to take your car problems, but don't assume from the number of problems discussed here that the W211 is another 1990 Jaguar when it comes to build quality or reliability. It's just human nature to express complaints more than praise. I've carped about this or that in this forum, but the fact is, our W211 has been almost entirely fault-free since we took delivery 15 months ago. Most of the W211's reputation for problems derives from the '03 production, our model year, but our car sure hasn't been a problem. And, as others have pointed out, the W211 is a very complex beast, and many apparent problems can be resolved by a dip into the owner's manual. To give one minor example of the importance of learning the car's many features - at least twice I've put the car in reverse, noticed that the right-side mirror wasn't tilting downward, and assumed that the tilt-down function was broken. Nope. It just doesn't work unless the selector switch for side mirror adjustment is in the right-mirror position (YMMV in RHD countries). It's in the manual but I hadn't bothered to read it.

Thanks guys. I know there's a lot of learning to do. Am familiar with ESTO (equipment smater than operator) concept. I understand that eveybody is being picky. I had a 1988 Van den Plas and learned all the Jaguar jokes the hard way: "My other vehicle is a tow-truck" "Know why the Brit's drink warm beer? Lucas electronics", etc. I'll keep turned in.

Whichever one is available (1 of 5)
Congratulations on all you guys who just got your new Benz. I just bought my(oops! company car) third Benz end of August. Now I am planning on my fourth one(my own). I am considering ED (any excuse to take an European vacation and pick up a new car) in summer of 2005. Maybe the new CLS.

Ya, I went General Motors for the reliability and power, but the petrol thirst certainly is there. It took more than a decade for me to venture back into a foreign car, after Jaguar ownership. The USA being held hostage by our dependence on imported oil (our own damned fault), and all the positives of the CDI was enough to do it. For what they are, the Detroit Irons have been very good to me.

gettin' to know her
Have decided that my 211 is definately a high-class woman, with quirks, personality, class and style. Got a chance to get a 400+ mile trip over Christmas. Enjoyed the heated seats, and the lower back massage, and the extra side support when you duck around a corner faster than you really should. The navigation, tho incomplete for some streets, is much easier to get around than the Garmin Street Pilot 2620 I've been using in my SUV.
However, was kinda suprised that there's a slight vibration from the front end, almost like the allignment isn't quite right. Is that normal, or something I should point out to the dealer when I take it in for it's initial look-over?
As Luxury1 said, driving her has distracted me from posting much .....

Vibration
Just picked up my new 05 E500. I noticed vibration at 60 mph. Is that a balance problem? Anybody have the same problem?

vibration
Took my 05 CDI in for the initial dealer inspection. The vibration I mentioned turns out to be 2 bent rims (front and rear) on the right side. Not visable looking at the car, but on the inside of the rims. Damaged the tires, too.
Not positive where/when it happened, but I remember hitting a substantial pothole in NJ on my Christmas road trip. Two rims, two tires = $1,000.

Ouch, sorry to hear that. Very painful. I'd be out looking for potholes armed with a digital camera and the telephone number of my local council!!!

rims and tire damage
I talked to several people about what the dealer said needed to be done (replace right side tires and rims). Lots of diverse opinions, so I put Ronald Reagan's "trust but verify" notion in play. Took the CDI to a trusted mechanic, who put it on the lift. He verified that both rims were bent, said that a serious pothole could have caused the damage, but could only find a problem on the front tire. When I take the car in for the replacements, I'll have them show me the damage on the rear tire. If there isn't tire damage, it's the customer-dealer relationship that will be damaged.
I'll post the outcome.

Went to the dealer yesterday. When I asked the service guy to show me the damage to the second tire, he back-pedaled, saying, "No, didn't see any damage to the rear tire, just the bent rim. So, maybe there's a broken cord in the tire inside, so just-to-be-safe, I wrote it up as 2 rims and 2 tires".
The saleman who sold me the CDI wanted to melt into the floor, when he heard the stammering service guy. At any rate, I purchased the 2 + 2, but took the original rims and tires with me. I'll have a trusted guy pull the tire off the bent rim, and check the tire carefully. I suspect I've got a spare.
Did get rid of the vibration, tho....
