2004 E320 4matic trans oil change or not ?
Hey there .
Merry Xmas to all of you.
I have a 2004 e320 4matic with 204.000km here in Canada in great shape. This summer im planning on fixing the AC ( it has a leaky condencer) so i got a new BEHR part and im going to change it myself since couple shops that i asked wanted 2000K+ for parts and labor...what a joke. Anyway , long story short i have like 4-5 years of service history from the previous owner that he was the 2nd one , and before that was an old couple that they had the car since new. I am thinking of changing myself the oil on the transfer case , rear diff , and trans fluid/filter/connector because i really want to keep the car. The mercedes ''experts'' that i visited some time ago said that they wouldnt recommend a trans oil change because since we dont know the service history of it , we may mess it up when we change it with new/fresh contaminant free oil.
What do you think ? Do i leave it like that ? Do i change it ? Any opinions will be more than welcome .

I wouldn’t “flush” it, but drain and refill. Dropping the ATF pan is fairly easy and you can get a lot insight about the condition of the transmission then. Lots of kits come with new ATF filter, rubber seal and new bolts. Other members chime in…

Yeap , pretty much what i am thinking to do , but i want to hear some more opinions from people that did that.

Get all fluid serviced. If you are able to complete them yourself and save $$$ all the best. I had my indy do everthing except oil, and my wagon rides smoother. Gud luck..Seasons Greeting

Drop the pan and change the filter. Its about a 50% change of the fluid doing just that. Do it again in 30,000km and again in another 30k. Avoid fhe flush.

(Winter down time) Now is the best time to knock it out..Optest now and ensure all is great saves you heartache. Summer is the time to be rolling, and haveing fun vice doing maintenance that you can do now, but to each is own. GL
