Anyone have any transmission troubles?
One of my 03 E's went in the shop for a transmission issue.
They dealer said new transmissions are on back order...
Anyone else have any trouble with theirs?

2003 E-500
I haven't had any trouble as yet with my current '03 or with my earlier '03 without the Nav. Could you please tell us your model of E (320 or 500), how many miles you have on the car and what type of "transmission issue" you have with it. Do you need a new transmission or just an adjustment of some type. There have been some complaints in another link about people having a total loss of power sometimes when they floor it and then take their foot off the gas quickly. Is that related to your problem? I believe there is a post about a TSB for that type of problem.

In my 03 E500, not my 03 E55...at least that is one good thing.
MB is going to put a new one in it.
They said the tranny cooler had a leak and was mixing with the collant for the motor (or something like that...she was kind of vage).
It just felt like the car was sputtering when it would shift.
27,000 miles on the car.

lurching transmission at low speed/low rpm
I've noticed intermittent lurching, almost as if I was letting the clutch out too quickly at idle power, when coasting into a public parking garage after some trips.
It's very odd, and it's at a low speed, sort of a walking-roll pace. With my foot *off* the accelerator after bringing it into the garage area, letting it roll through a couple of rows of vehicles, I get a pull-pull-pull forward.
2003, E500, around 7,000 miles (hey, I live *and* work in Manhattan :-) )
Haven't had it discussed with the service guy yet (though I need to go back for another radio flash - the HK after the first flash update likes to static out the radio, then power off, then power back on and start playing CD 0, sometimes still displaying "fm1" as the band selected while showing 'track 1' at the same time in the MFD on the dash. Weird)

I bet you you feel the transmission hard downshift into 1st when rolling to a stop in the last 6 feet of travel only on very cold days untill you've driven the car for a while & it is thoroughly warm.

actually that's the part that makes no sense...it happens at the end of a drive....say, from the bottom of manhattan 7 miles (that's an hour's drive for you flatlanders :-) ) up the west side, park a while, then drive another 3 or 4 miles, then roll into the garage.
the car's definitely warmed up, and I noticed it in the summer too.
it's an intermittent thing, but I wonder.

was '03 E320 - now - '04 S4
jposhea -
My '03 E320 (5 speed auto) does the very same thing. Lurching @ parking lot speeds. It doesn't matter if the hot or cold.
I have experienced the big *thump* creeping downhill (very steep hill) once. It was more of a bang than a thump really.

My dealer told me the cause of my problem might have been a problem with the transmission cooler.
