2005 Comand in 2004 E500

Can the 2004 COMAND be replaced with the 2005 COMAND that plays DVD's and MP3's?

The dealer says no. Is that true?

Thats a good question...I would like to play mp3s in my 04.

Another annoying thing is that the radio doesnt tell you the artist or song playing like in my other cars...GMC/Chevy and they are not Satelite radios..plain old radios

Hi,

The 05 W211 command has a DVD drive. It does play MP3 DVD and DVD movies. It will not show picture, but you can heard the sound.

atssystems.com,

If you have a 04' W211, why it need a 05' command? which the 04' already with the 6.5 TFT command screen. You probably just unstall the the Navi to your car.

I just read you sig, you put a 05' command in your W211. Why? And where did you get the command from?

You did not have COMMAND?? And you have an 04 E500?? All the 04' model comes with COMMAND with 6.5" TFT screen. You probably just add the NAVI unit to your car.

I have not yet see an 04' E-Class without COMMAND. It is a standard equip.

I am in Canada and Command is not standard in 2004 units. It is in 2005..

COMAND is not standard on the E class. Yes there is a large TFT screen but it is not COMAND. COMAND is the actual Navigation system. I know this since I paid extra for the COMAND in my E55. I think you are getting the stock head unit with the regular TFT confused with a COMAND system. They are very different units.

I have a 2004 E320 with the Premium sound system. It has the COMAND interface. Something like the first 59 pages of the COMAND manual describe it's functions. If you do not get either the Premium sound system or the Nav system, you do not get COMAND.

Yes, the car came standard in 2004 Canada spec with the Audio 50. Little screen and a tape player (same thing that the McClaren comes with - and the only thing you can get in the McClaren).

COMMAND system which stand for (****pit Management and Data System). Which every car has one. What I mean is that the command on 04' E class has a 6.5" TFT screen on it. NAVI is just part of COMMAND function.

atssystems.com,

You are in Canada right? So the 04' E class did not have the 6.5TFT screen standard? That is really too bad, just like my 03' E500 did not have the screen standard. In Canada, the dealer can retofit the 6.5TFT screen COMMAND unit? That must be expensive. I have check with Parts and the price is like $1800 on COMMAND unit, but here they will not change it for me since they have never done one before....

Brav,

Yes, I do work for MB and I do know the US spec on 04' E class. The standard COMMAND does come with a 6.5TFT screen regardless of with or without NAVI. The Navi is just part of COMMAND function. (Do you know??) That is for US spec 04' E Classes. I did not know he is from Canada. Maybe Canada spec E class is using basic COMMAND without 6.5" screen like the 03' E-Classes US Spec. Which I have made the correction on above post.

Please read before posting which will not make yourself sounds stupid. I understand...., which I have made the same mistake on earlier post. That is why I post a correction. I thought the Canada and US spec were the same, but in this case that I guess not.

We just picked up our 05 E320 and it came with the screen. The sticker does call it the COMAND system eventhough we didn't get navigation option. It's basically used as a radio control right now.

[EDIT] cool found answer to all my questions just by reading further.

Thanks!

If anything, some 2003 play DVD after user manipulation. After 2003 you probably want Steve to give you a hand.

That is right.

The same model car might come with different standard options on different regions. Dunno why, I often found European model always have better option comparing with US spec...

DUDE - NOT in a million years!!!

COMMAND is not COMMAND but is COMAND...COMAND is standard equipment in the 2004 and 2005 US spec W211s...and is NOT standard equipment in the rest of the world.

If you can get coMand headunits from your dealer for 1800USD, I can only say that you should JUMP on that DEAL!

greetingz,

There are a bunch of things that are standard in US models that you have to pay extra for in Europe.

The trunk emblems and nomenclature were extra.
OH, you want front and REAR power windows! (I think that now the W211 has all 4 as standard).
The tinted stripe on the windshield was extra along with about 2 pages worth of stuff. This is when my family bought the W124. We only got the passenger airbag, rear window shade and headlight washers, according to the US list of options. But there was a huge list of stuff that the cars in Germany don't have.
The W210 finally came standard with A/C, but not leather seats, Or power adjustable seats for that matter.

Not to mention that the E320 is the smallest engine in the US, NOT THE CASE in the rest of the world. I was just in Germany driving my friends E220 CDI and I was amazed at how many things were missing in the car coMand was one of them along with power (ofcourse). For the most part the US has very well equipped cars, but we do get gypped on things like: folding side mirrors, sbc hold and stop and little crap like this.

I drive European Mercedes Benzes at least once a year (but usually about 3 times). I could go one for hours about the differences in standard equipment.

I finally had to day something about this,

Steve

Correction.

I mean the option lists are much better than US version. Of course you pay what you get. More options = more money.

I have few customer buy the S Class in Asia market and the car comes with many goodies such as: power rear seats, video and TV system...etc which wasn't listed in US spec. Some of option are only avaliable in 600s, but not in S430 or 500.

Common sense. You think the Jap car has better option in Japan market or US market? Of course there are also basic cars too. You go to Germany and people use MB as taxis, but that doesn't mean MB in germany are all basic cars. They are options which isn't avaliable to US market.

I am under the impression that Comand is NOT the Nav system. Comand is the "****pit management and something or other..." and is std in the US whether or not the Nav is ordered.

*Idiotic software will not let me say c0ckpit above !!!

Last month the front load CD drive on my command "mysteriously" stopped working. When i went in to get it checked they told me they had to replace the whole thing. And now my '04 has an '05 command unit. So the moral of the story is if you want to play MP3's "mysteriously" make it happen!!
