Did they change the front seats on the 2005?

I was looking at some E-classes and I noticed something comparing a preowned 03 and a new 05. The trim surrounding the seat cushion on the 03 is a big plastic surround... this is no more on the 05 so it seems. Here are some pictures.

Here is the pre-owned 2003 E320.

Now here is the 2005 E500, it looks like there is a leather flap extending to the floor now.

Has anyone else noticed this? Does the 05 trim feel nicer or something?

The seats on the 320 are standard seats (leather inserts). The US e500 comes standard with "full Leather seats" rather than "inserts".

The bottom pic looks like it might have Drive Dynamic or at least "multi-contoured" seats (controls on the bottom right of the driver's seat). This more than likely accounts for the difference.

Yes, the seat design changed for 2005. This has little to do with standard/multicontour/dynamic seats, and little to do with cloth/mbtex/leather coverings.

There have been a few posts in the past about how the 2005 seat texture is nicer, as well, but that is purely subjective.

While I believe this has been discussed in other "de-contenting" threads, I will add that the passenger-side lumbar adjustment has also been eliminated in the '05 seat re-design (or at least on mine). The passenger-side lumbar "knob" can be seen on AlBoston's picture of the '03 model.

Yes, the plastic drawer under the seats has been pushed under as people must have complained of the plastic look.. Although the drawer looks smaller.

Looks like a welcome change. That plastic thing is so cheap feeling. And beyond that, it tends to squeek a lot.

interesting, never noticed. looks like the shape/stiching changed too. my seat is uncomfortable, part of the seam is very thick and lumpy. just never got around to taking it in. :/

They took off the plastic molding. The upholstery material extends down as in the picture. The drawer causes a problem in that the corner gets scuffed up quite easily. I wish they would elimiante the drawer entirely and carry the material around like they used to do in the "old days".

i noticed (not from those pictures) that the head rest bars seem curved in the 05 models where the 03/04 are straightened. IDK.

I love the draer. I keep everything in my pockets in there. I think it is a great touch.
