It's time for my first service since purchasing the car. The dealership said they did a 60,000 mile service before I drove it off the lot. I'm pretty sure she said that was the pricey service. Does that mean this next one is the A service? Is it recommended that I service the car at the dealership? or is going to another mechanic ok? I hear going to the dealership is overpriced.

While my car is under warranty, I'd prefer to take it to the dealer, so if any issues come up I have a history with them (or other dealer). Haven't had any issues yet (knock on wood)... however, my next service will be outside of my warranty period, so I will probably take it to a local ex-MB lead tech's shop in the area to save some money.

Question has been around as long as this forum. I always take my cars to dealerships no matter how long I have had them. Have been burned by poor quality work at indys too often. When you complain, not my fault. Who you gonna call then?
Dealership does cost more, but then so does an MB to start with. Plus they have access to all the MBUSA information and support from MBUSA & DAG technical people. In the event you have a non-warranty covered problem, a relationship with a dealer will be of great benefit in dealing with MBUSA. Sometimes dealer may just cover it anyway - indy never will. Not to mention, if dissatisfied you can appeal to the dealership's service manager or general manager and MBUSA Customer Assistance. With an indy, you can contact the indy guy. Think of the extra cost the same as you do insurance - that's what I do. |

I had a similar situation last year. Bought CPO 2013 C250COUPE with 9700 mi. Dealer said it had an A service performed prior to my purchase. I was a bit skeptical for a variety of reasons as to how through their service was. Took a good look at the oil and was not convinced that the service had been properly done. As I had bought the car out of state I took it to my local dealer and had the oil changed with Mobil 1 0w40 foreign car formula. This gave me peace of mind and is essentially what the A service requires. Also gave it a TECHRON treatment. 3,000 mi later the car is great and I sleep @ night.

I just had the B service done a few miles early... seems like everything is good - I also did the TECHRON treatment a bit before bringing it in. There should be a MB site that we can log in and see our car's records at. Anyone know if that's ever been done?

[QUOTE=tresean1;7119114]What is this TECHRON treatment? Which product do I buy, and what benefit does it have?
Techron is a Chevron product and is a fuel additive. Primarily to clean fuel injectors. Supposedly if you use a Top Tier gas, you don't need Techron as the additives in Top Tier fuels do the same thing. Also, most premium fuels also contain the same additives. However, I still use it in my cars a couple of times per year. Happy Motoring!:zoom: |
Does anyone know if there is a 14v wire up in the dome light that can be used for a hardwired for a radar?

W212 A Service @ 60,000km
Hi all.
I have my A service/60,000KM coming up in less than a month. I bought my Benz used and since took it into the dealership to replace the Auxiliary Battery under warranty in February this year. This however, is my first official service as owner. just wondering, what exactly does the A service involve and is there anything in particular that I should request? I am in Toronto, Canada. Thanks!! |

Looking for a description and procedure for brake fluid replacement for 2016 E350. Is this possible for a DIY'er without the purchase of expensive tools ?

As always, thanks for your attention and information. Added 12/2/2017. After contacting 3 MB dealers and asking if their service included operating the ABS unit during this fluid exchange, their answer was NO, NO ABS. Prices ranged from $135 to $188. That made the decision easy. I bought a brake bleeder, Schwaben European car model, and catch can. Very to do the brake fluid exchange with this setup. |
Installing main battery in 2010 E350
Are there any special precautions to installing the main battery in a 2010 E350? Planning to get one at Advance and have them install it.
thanks, |

thanks, |
I made sure my windows and sunroof were fully closed just to be sure there were no auto-close issues. Didn't have any problems. IIRC the trip meter (from reset) was the only thing not retained.

Thank You again!

Not according to WIS, see attachment.
Since I have the battery in the engine compartment, I am assuming steps 7 & 8 do not apply to my car, nor does the part about Model 207. My major concern is preventing the Music Register and other information and settings being lost. I'm assuming the installer doesn't have to do anything with the "secret" programming system? The information on the battery at Advance website states "requires professional installation and may require up to 45 minutes." I don't think the 45 minutes applies, but not sure what "professional installation" means. As I posted, I do not plan to do it myself, but is the guy at Advance a "professional?" Thanks again for your help. |

Follow up question
I did this as an edit to previous post, but thought I would do it again.

Not good
Called a company that primarily does nothing but batteries. They do not instill in MB's at all - too many complications.
Called one Advance and guy said they could do it if they hooked their "memory saver" up to car. Called another Advance (closer) and they said take it to dealer. They tried before with a "memory saver" and ended up losing the memory and owner had to take it to dealer to get it fixed. Beginning to think I'll just eat the additional $100 and let the dealer do it. |
I kind of remember that issue when I made inquiries so I ended up changing the battery in the parking lot of Pep Boys by myself. On my Honda, Advance Auto guy did it in the parking lot for me and did a nice job.
