I had Advance do it before. I think the kid who did it at the time wasn't a "professional", he undid the positive first, but I didn't want to criticize him so I kept quiet and just kept an eye on him, he didn't get too close to the body so it was fine. You're supposed to do the negative first because a short to the body with negative does nothing, but a short to the body from positive will cause sparks to fly and may do other damage if the negative is connected. If it's disconnected, then nothing happens. It's always negative first, then positive to remove and positive first then negative when installing.

Service items?

Hi Konigstiger, I'd appreciate your help.

My 2014 E350 wagon is showing workshop code 3E0H and service code B5. Car has 27,000 miles and was manufactured in January 2014. I'd like to do the maintenance myself. Could you please give me the service items?

Also, what does oil data record 01 00 23 mean?

Thank you!

2014 E350 Sport Base Sedan Transmission Fluid Change Question

Konigstiger,

I hope you might be able to shed some light on whether the 2014 E350 with the 7 speed auto transmission actually has a drain plug for the torque converter. There is plenty of information on how to do a blue atf fluid change with no torque converter draining or cooler flushing, however there is a lot of conflicting information on whether the later models of the E350 torque converters actually have a drain plug or not? Also, information on the forums suggest the dealers only do a pan drop and filter change and do not drain the torque converter. On-line I see kits for the transmission fluid change with 5 litres and with 9 litres of atf fluid. It seems to me that only changing 5 litres of a 9 litre system is better than nothing but leaves you half old fluid and half new? I've still got time before my service is due and I'm only researching to make sure I know what I should expect and what kit and tools I'll need.

Torque Specs

Konigstiger,
Can I trouble you for the torque specs on the following:
2014 E-350 Base 4 door sedan, not 4 matic, not air suspension.
Front lower control arm torque spec both ends
Rear lower control arm torque spec both ends
Front ball joint torque specs
Front sway bar link torque spec
Outer tie rod end torque spec

I've been chasing some play in the steering and I have and have decided to do a major overhaul replacing all the parts listed above.

Thx for your help.

Can someone tell me what the small round sensor that is in the middle of the dash (where parktronic would be if I had it) controls? I believe this to be climate control related, perhaps sun positioning. Does it control any lighting?

MWmp5 05-03-2020 05:44 PM

I believe it controls some of your interior lighting. As it senses when it is dark outside to turn on dash lighting and or ambient lighting

I thought that would be controlled by the light sensor (with the rain sensor)? Maybe @konigstiger can verify.

konigstiger 05-04-2020 11:06 AM

A/C sun sensor.

The smal dome atop the dash inputs to the headlights and interior lighting, A/C controls. Your rain sensor is in the black surround in the windshield (center top)... Just like your previous C-Class.

I don't believe this is the case. I believe (and I think @konigstiger confirmed) that this sensor is only tied into climate control as a sun position sensor. The rain sensors have always been in the same place, but I'm pretty sure the headlight sensor is there as well.

Thank you. I wanted to make sure I am not triggering headlights or dimming interior lights if the windshield gets tinted. On one of my other cars, a Kia Optima Hybrid, even our go to Air80 80% windshield tint caused the headlights to come on way too early in the automatic mode.

Okay, I bought this MY2014 E Class in Sept. 2020 with 87k miles. I changed the oil at 90k & 101k and tried to change the service A and was flummoxed. I get to ASSYST PLUS and the display tells me "Sevice A exceeds 5100 miles." The display does not take me to "Service Data." I need to be pointed in the right direction to change this service A. Graduating from C Class to E Class seems to be a chore.

See attachments. I find this procedure confusing and it usually takes me several tries, but eventually, I succeed. The PDF is the main procedure, the other is a note to me.

If this doesn't seem to work, search this forum and the internet for your specific year and model, and you may find a slight variation that will work correctly.

LILBENZ230 04-03-2021 10:55 AM

I have an odd thing going on with my MY2016 E350. My car is at 44,650 miles and in the ASSYST menu, some days it says A3 due in 4300 miles and some days it says A5 due in 4300 miles.

Any idea why it switches back and forth from A3 to A5? The 50,000 mile service would be what is due and that should be A5.

ESI6 is the new spec for brake fluid, it's good for three years instead of two for DOT4 and one year for DOT3.
