Previously, the maintenance scopes alternated between the minor basic service (Service A) and the major basic service (Service B). These services have now been classified as the technically essential Required Package and a supplemental Recommended Package. Required Package A reduced basic package has been defined for the Required Package for price-conscious customers. This basic package omits some service items which previously formed part of the Basic Service.
Recommended Package A Recommended Package has also been developed to allow those customers for whom convenience and service is important to continue to have these service items performed by Mercedes-Benz Service. The service advisor must offer this package to the customer during a consultation because it is no longer included in the conventional maintenance scopes. The aim of this consultation is to identify the most suitable package for the customer. The first digit indicates whether the service is a minor or a major basic service: A = Service A = Minor basic service, B = Service B = Major basic service. The second digit indicates that additional operations are due: Number or letter. |

How did you get all this information probably before some dealers? |
This is very cool.
Saved. Thanks. |
More Confusion by owning an M-B
Assume both the Recommended and Required Services would be included in the 3 year pre-paid maintenance contracts?
As of three months ago, my dealer charged $200+ for A and $450+ for B services. Does this mean he will probably charge less for the Required A & B? thanks for the info-really appreciate this service you provide-wish the dealer did. |
Thanks for the information. Instructions are straight forward.
|
Any real difference?
Finally got around to comparing attachments to my maintenance manual. Does not appear they have really moved a lot to the Recommended and in fact may have added some things?
Wonder if there will be any real difference in cost? Do they really replace windshield wiper blades every 10,000 miles? |
do u guys have the rates which is at par with the dealers rates or u r cheaper ?
|
Brakes?
What is the cost of replacing brakes & when to expect (at 20k mi, 30k, or later)?
|
depends on of you need rotors too......
email your parts department, they'll give you prices, I do it all the time...... evr consider dustfree pads? I hear they reduce dust, as well as stopping power, LOL....... |

My benz dealer in Lake Bluff Illinois the service A is $254.00 includes a full oil change.
HOWEVER they offer a full oil change for $89.00 plus tax AND they do a FREE multi-point check. This FREE multi-point check covers EVERYTHING under the service A except to reset the dash for that they want an additional $165.00 THIEVES :X. The directions attached are VERY easy to follow and do :y. I have done it and it works on a 2011 E350 W212. |
thanx for that good info maui tom, I'm saving these

Another thought is the finishing coat (I have no idea if it's a plastic or some type of epoxy) could be what's changing. Dave PS I'm loving this forum. Seems to be the most active on the web |
Wood was faded and Mercedes verified it and replaced all the wood in the car under warrantee.

I like woodworking as a hobby. Different woods take stain differently. Burled walnut is actually wood that is "damaged", for lack of a better word, by stress or illness. It's very valued by wood workers due to it's increased knotting and grain features. These features will create a natural variation in color.

You all rock... Thanks for sharing!
I saved the files... I purchased my CPO 2013 E-350 with 8800 miles on it, and they did the "A" service on it - although I don't know which version, upon their taking the car into inventory with a few miles less... I'm not concerned about wheel rotation as I've been running winter wheels / tires (Enkei EDR9 (17s downsized from my 18s) & Michelin X-Ice Xi3 - loved them both by the way through my first Ohio winter if anyone cares) for months now... and will be going back to the AMG wheels soon... When should I take it in for the "B" service? I'm concerned about the possibility that they didn't REALLY do all they should have on the A, and want to keep this car for a long time... Part of the concern is due to them showing me the wrong carfax at first, their telling me while standing next to the car that it had 17" wheels (AMG 18"), and saying it was a loaner (the two next to it were)... I appreciate your thoughts! |

As I had bought the car out of state I took it to my local dealer and had the oil changed with Mobil 1 0w40 foreign car formula. This gave me peace of mind and is essentially what the A service requires. Also gave it a TECHRON treatment. 3,000 mi later the car is great and I sleep @ night.

a website would be nice. But you can get a Vehicle Master Inquiry from your local dealer that will show all the history from the dealer database. If you don't use dealers, then there are smartphone apps that help you track your history but you have to update it yourself.
Personally, I still keep the envelope in the glove compartment with all my records. |

I have a 2016 E350 with keyless-go ignition and my question concerns resetting of the service indicator. To initiate the reset, is it necessary to actually insert the key into the ignition switch or just press the start button without having foot on brake (turns on electrical system but do not start)? If actual insertion is required, how to remove the keyless-go button?

I find removing the button easier. Just pull the button straight out. |
Hey konigstiger...I'm planning to put the car on jack stands. Can you provide a diagram of the undercarriage showing all the jacking points aside from the obvious ones on each side of the car? I want to be able to lift the whole front with the floor jack but I don't know where to place it. Same thing for the rear. My E is a 2012 W212 4matic sedan. Thank you for your help.

Bump. konigstiger we are eagerly awaiting your reply in particular where to jack in the rear of the car

It's time for my first service since purchasing the car. The dealership said they did a 60,000 mile service before I drove it off the lot. I'm pretty sure she said that was the pricey service. Does that mean this next one is the A service? Is it recommended that I service the car at the dealership? or is going to another mechanic ok? I hear going to the dealership is overpriced.
|
While my car is under warranty, I'd prefer to take it to the dealer, so if any issues come up I have a history with them (or other dealer). Haven't had any issues yet (knock on wood)... however, my next service will be outside of my warranty period, so I will probably take it to a local ex-MB lead tech's shop in the area to save some money.
|
Question has been around as long as this forum. I always take my cars to dealerships no matter how long I have had them. Have been burned by poor quality work at indys too often. When you complain, not my fault. Who you gonna call then?
Dealership does cost more, but then so does an MB to start with. Plus they have access to all the MBUSA information and support from MBUSA & DAG technical people. In the event you have a non-warranty covered problem, a relationship with a dealer will be of great benefit in dealing with MBUSA. Sometimes dealer may just cover it anyway - indy never will. Not to mention, if dissatisfied you can appeal to the dealership's service manager or general manager and MBUSA Customer Assistance. With an indy, you can contact the indy guy. Think of the extra cost the same as you do insurance - that's what I do. |

[QUOTE=tresean1;7119114]What is this TECHRON treatment? Which product do I buy, and what benefit does it have?
Techron is a Chevron product and is a fuel additive. Primarily to clean fuel injectors. Supposedly if you use a Top Tier gas, you don't need Techron as the additives in Top Tier fuels do the same thing. Also, most premium fuels also contain the same additives. However, I still use it in my cars a couple of times per year. Happy Motoring!:zoom: |

W212 A Service @ 60,000km
Hi all.
I have my A service/60,000KM coming up in less than a month. I bought my Benz used and since took it into the dealership to replace the Auxiliary Battery under warranty in February this year. This however, is my first official service as owner. just wondering, what exactly does the A service involve and is there anything in particular that I should request? I am in Toronto, Canada. Thanks!! |

As always, thanks for your attention and information. Added 12/2/2017. After contacting 3 MB dealers and asking if their service included operating the ABS unit during this fluid exchange, their answer was NO, NO ABS. Prices ranged from $135 to $188. That made the decision easy. I bought a brake bleeder, Schwaben European car model, and catch can. Very to do the brake fluid exchange with this setup. |
Installing main battery in 2010 E350
Are there any special precautions to installing the main battery in a 2010 E350? Planning to get one at Advance and have them install it.

I made sure my windows and sunroof were fully closed just to be sure there were no auto-close issues. Didn't have any problems. IIRC the trip meter (from reset) was the only thing not retained.

Since I have the battery in the engine compartment, I am assuming steps 7 & 8 do not apply to my car, nor does the part about Model 207. My major concern is preventing the Music Register and other information and settings being lost. I'm assuming the installer doesn't have to do anything with the "secret" programming system? The information on the battery at Advance website states "requires professional installation and may require up to 45 minutes." I don't think the 45 minutes applies, but not sure what "professional installation" means. As I posted, I do not plan to do it myself, but is the guy at Advance a "professional?" Thanks again for your help. |

Follow up question
I did this as an edit to previous post, but thought I would do it again.

I don't think the 45 minutes applies, but not sure what "professional installation" means. As I posted, I do not plan to do it myself, but is the guy at Advance a "professional" in this context? |
Not good
Called a company that primarily does nothing but batteries. They do not instill in MB's at all - too many complications.
Called one Advance and guy said they could do it if they hooked their "memory saver" up to car. Called another Advance (closer) and they said take it to dealer. They tried before with a "memory saver" and ended up losing the memory and owner had to take it to dealer to get it fixed. Beginning to think I'll just eat the additional $100 and let the dealer do it. |
I kind of remember that issue when I made inquiries so I ended up changing the battery in the parking lot of Pep Boys by myself. On my Honda, Advance Auto guy did it in the parking lot for me and did a nice job.
|
I had Advance do it before. I think the kid who did it at the time wasn't a "professional", he undid the positive first, but I didn't want to criticize him so I kept quiet and just kept an eye on him, he didn't get too close to the body so it was fine. You're supposed to do the negative first because a short to the body with negative does nothing, but a short to the body from positive will cause sparks to fly and may do other damage if the negative is connected. If it's disconnected, then nothing happens. It's always negative first, then positive to remove and positive first then negative when installing.

2014 E350 Sport Base Sedan Transmission Fluid Change Question
Konigstiger,
I hope you might be able to shed some light on whether the 2014 E350 with the 7 speed auto transmission actually has a drain plug for the torque converter. There is plenty of information on how to do a blue atf fluid change with no torque converter draining or cooler flushing, however there is a lot of conflicting information on whether the later models of the E350 torque converters actually have a drain plug or not? Also, information on the forums suggest the dealers only do a pan drop and filter change and do not drain the torque converter. On-line I see kits for the transmission fluid change with 5 litres and with 9 litres of atf fluid. It seems to me that only changing 5 litres of a 9 litre system is better than nothing but leaves you half old fluid and half new? I've still got time before my service is due and I'm only researching to make sure I know what I should expect and what kit and tools I'll need. |

Can someone tell me what the small round sensor that is in the middle of the dash (where parktronic would be if I had it) controls? I believe this to be climate control related, perhaps sun positioning. Does it control any lighting?
|
I believe it controls some of your interior lighting. As it senses when it is dark outside to turn on dash lighting and or ambient lighting

I get to ASSYST PLUS and the display tells me "Sevice A exceeds 5100 miles." The display does not take me to "Service Data." I need to be pointed in the right direction to change this service A. Graduating from C Class to E Class seems to be a chore.

See attachments. I find this procedure confusing and it usually takes me several tries, but eventually, I succeed. The PDF is the main procedure, the other is a note to me.
If this doesn't seem to work, search this forum and the internet for your specific year and model, and you may find a slight variation that will work correctly. |
I have an odd thing going on with my MY2016 E350. My car is at 44,650 miles and in the ASSYST menu, some days it says A3 due in 4300 miles and some days it says A5 due in 4300 miles.
Any idea why it switches back and forth from A3 to A5? The 50,000 mile service would be what is due and that should be A5. |
ESI6 is the new spec for brake fluid, it's good for three years instead of two for DOT4 and one year for DOT3.
