VIN question

The last eight of my VIN are AA126102. I noted that you reference VIN's with A and then numbers. Would mine come after the ones your last listed?
Thanks.

VIN range references apply to the last seven characters of your VIN. A126102 is higher than A057743 and below VIN cutoff A154303 therefore, bulletin 048662 applies to your vehicle if deflector below windshield is or becomes detached and protrudes in places.

TSB Sits?

[quote=konigstiger;3917691]
LI83.10-P-048662 JAN10 VIN range A057743 to A154303, water deflector below the windshield can become detached.

I e-mailed the service manager and he responded that if I had problem as described in the TSB, I could get it fixed. No problem that I am aware of. Will call him later, but got to wondering.
Your information is really appreciated, but is there a site where I can go to find the actual TSB? I checked out DOT, Edmunds and a couple of others, but they had no listings for 2010 E's.
Thanks.

Need your help konigstiger

Hi konigstiger,

Your knowledge is very valuable for us. I need your help, I have a 2010 E350 4matic and I am having an awkward issue with the tranny, the tranny shifts smoothly except upshiftting from 4th to 5th gear, it has hiccup at low RPMs " between 1,500 and 2,500 RPMs, 25 to 35 MPH " it's kind drops the gear, and that when the adaptive shifting kicks in, it doesn't happen when the vehicle is cold or the transmission memory is reseted. However It doesn't happen while down-shifting either. I went to the dealer 3 times about this and they said "It's product characteristics and it's your driving style, you need to drive it more aggressively" is that true? I test drove a similar car for a family member and I am pretty sure that he doesn't drive that car aggressively and the tranny was very smooth. Is it normal behavior? If not, is there any service bulletin regarding this issue? what do you advise me to do?

There was thread that i have initiated about this earlier:
https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ease-help.html

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Bulletin LI32.25-P-051123 FEB11

Is this a new Bulletin? My E350 has been at dealer since Tuesday AM - noise as described in the Bulletin plus an ongoing vibration (buzzing) issue in Steering Wheel. Called today to see what was going on, since I had not heard anything since dropping it off, and was advised he is waiting on parts - front strut(s). Asked why and was told, "...you heard a noise, so the tech thought we should do this." Not sure if doing just one or both - should they be done as a pair? If say they are just doing one, should I request the other one be done as well? Interesting timing; I just wish they could be up front about what is going on - I am happier knowing the truth and reason for an action, even if it isn't what one would hope for.

Also replacing a defective rear shock absorber PLUS just had a defective front shock replaced in February!!!

Is my vehicle a Zitrone?

Hey Konigstiger, I used this DTB hoping it would give me the new Command upgrade that some here have gotten (with the Bluetooth streaming, fixed POI's-where it doesn't give you a random City location, better graphics, A/C display on the bottom of the screen, Nav Map graphics upgrade, etc.), and after them saying that they were uploading new software for 2 hours (which I know they did, because apparently it crashed right before it was complete the first time, and I had to leave the car overnight), I see absolutely no changes to my Command. Did I give them the wrong code for what I seeked?

Don't know where they're located *on the vehicle* but you can get it from the "datacard" available at startekinfo. You can sign up for free (for the first year IIRC) and once signed up you can get all sorts of interesting, useful, info about *your* vehicle (including your engine number) by entering your VIN number.

Hi Konigstiger,

For:

LI68.10-P-050415 - 212 burl walnut trim that is fading or discoloring and VIN is between A000988 to A291888 cause inadequate UV protection dealer will replace all trim under warranty.

Is the issue and replacement limited to the serial range provided? I have an A31xxxx and the burl trim above the glove box is considerably faded as compared to the adjacent trim. Could there be a few outside the range with the issue?

Thanks in advance.

Regardless of VIN dealer should replace any discolored wood trim under factory warranty without question. You can reference DTB to justify a claim to replace all trim if you have concern that new piece may not match remaining trim.

WOW! That looks awful. Does your car sit in the sun a lot? Reason that I ask is because my car doesn't bake in the sun too often, and I have tinted windows which I wonder mask the effect of fading the wood. However, now that I see it, there's no doubt that my eyes aren't playing any tricks on me.... my cars wood has not faded at all, and it very colorful/full looking.

BM2BZ 03-20-2012 04:33 AM

i don't understand why only faded on two sides, not the top ?

LI46.20-P-053398 – Rattling/thumping noises from area of steering, possible cause excessive play between thrust piece and steering rack.

LI88.20-P-053415 – s212 (wagon) & 218 (CLS) Rear bumper sticks out in area of rear lamp, cause too much play between bracket for bumper and lamp. Thermal expansion causes the bumper to stick out, protective fill is installed to correct this.

LI82.10-P-053439 – “High Beam Assist nonfunctional” message, replace multi function camera and calibrate.

MatOhio 04-06-2012 08:02 AM

Generally had the slider pushed in. Dealer replaced all the wood. It was a factory defect; bad batch of UV protection.
Side note: given the many issues I have had with this vehicle, dealer and M-B replaced my 2010 with a new 2012! A HUGE show of unbelievable customer support that has endeared me to both forever. This is why M-B is #1 in customer retention. Forget the horror stories you read; work with them in a reasonable, professional manner and good things happen. The 2012 is sooooo sweet!!!

I believe this is the discoloration. I usually leave my tray tucked in, but you can see on the side it's starting to fade.

K-A 04-14-2012 07:28 PM

You guys with discoloration, do you leave your car out in the sun a lot? I don't, and I have my tray closed mostly, so it would be harder to tell if my car did have lack of UV protection on the wood. Though, I know for sure that there's been no fading yet (nice and dark/rich), in case I did keep the car for a long time, it would suck if the fading effects were slow enough to where the car would be out of warranty when I'd start to notice it.

Nope, mine was garaged at all times plus live in Cleveland and we have no sunshine! You can check if fading is occuring by opening your front door and compare the wood that is at the very front of the door and is tucked in next to the dashboard when the door is closed. There was a very noticeable difference on mine. Will post a picture when not on my phone.

Yeh. My car sits in the sun from 10am until 10 at night. Pretty much 6 days a week.

Ah, good one! I will keep an eye on that area as a gauge. Also, my windows are dark tinted which also would prevent the fading effect of UV rays in the case that my cars wood is one of the affected batches.

BM2BZ 04-15-2012 08:27 PM

yes, i can see it pops out a bit but just not sure where is it exactly. is it your left tail light? the light from your pic looks more vertical than horizontal and it looks more like the tail light from a cadillac srx suv. that's why i'm kind of confused.

newyorktoLA 04-15-2012 10:47 PM

Yosheego, your wood console looks good to me. In fact, all the cars I saw at the dealer lot last had the same color and the sides were a little lighter on all the E sedans I saw; My dealer told me the expansion was normal too!

09/10 build as MY2011. The fading for me seems to be limited to the trim piece above the glove box, and not even across as it is more faded towards the AC vent on the right than on the left.

My car is garaged at home, but is parked outside in my spot at work, with a mixture of sun and shade. Of course, when I golf, it is outside in the sun for 5 hours or so at a time, as is the case when normally out and about.

Yes, not certain why they issued another bulletin rather than revision but looks like they added designo trim and clean point 8/11 validation (claim vehicles produced 8/11 > are equipped with modified trim).

I bought a 2010 350 last May. Thank you so much for this post. It has helped give me justification for requesting warranty claims with my dealership. They like to assume it is nothing wrong, or something that I was doing.

I took it in yesterday because of Bluetooth issues with calls, and also the streaming audio getting spotty after a few minutes. They updated the firmware but I don't think it's the latest version. It has the updated nav bird's eye view with the clouds, but it doesn't show the fan speed or temperature when changing the climate control. I'll check the version later in the engineering menu and post up.

Also, I asked them to check the wood trim because it looked like MatOhio's picture. (I am also from Ohio, go Browns and Bucks) They checked and said they didn't see a problem, so when I picked it up today I had to show them the LI and hold their hand while we went over to my car so that I could point it out. Then the guy saw it.

I'll be checking back with them on Monday, when the manager will be back. Is the firmware referenced in this comand 0009026706-001 the latest still?

Is it the case that they are obliged to check your car for the issues listed, or do they wait for the owner to see a problem and complain? Is there a record of what checks have been made or work done?

I'm asking because I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2010 E550 with over 50k miles, i.e. out of warranty. The car has been serviced by MB. I will go through the car looking for the issues in the list but wondered how best to proceed if there's a problem.

BTW the missing tab on the rear fender sounds expensive, didn't see any other threads related to it, maybe it'll take more time to become evident.

thanks,

Peter

I also have the bumper issue, not sure if its just a tab or whole replacement.

I believe when you take your car in for either normal or warranty maintenance the system/computer lets them know if a TSB is applicable from the build date or VIN.

Yes. My experience is MB is conscientious about applying technical updates.

DTB & LI bulletins are covered under warranty (initial factory, CPO, extended, etc.) pulled by tech normally only upon customer complaint. If they document a specific range (i.e.: VIN, serial #, etc.) and out of warranty request goodwill repair based on production defect from MB rep covering dealership via service manager.

Recalls & Service Campaigns are covered out of warranty - no time or mileage limitations.

Request Vehicle Master Inquiry (VMI) from dealer this is a history of all warranty, maintenance, at cost repairs, etc. performed by MB for your VIN.

I dunno. Maybe the issue suggests other potential failure of the heater or seat cover???? And who wants an electrical failure going on between your legs!? Not exactly the kind of lump you want there.

(Note that I resisted any comment about the dealer "pulling your seat apart" when you bought the car.:))

Not sure what the above means (Koning's deal?), but for clarification. My comment is reference to how often COMAND issues seem to come up and how complicated the "fixes" are. Even then the results seem to vary a lot as to success. :zoom:

I had a car once where water was leaking from the A/C into passenger floor due to poor assembly quality and design of drain location. Does it leak in rain? when washing car? Turn a hose on windshield and then on the area at base of windshield. Might help narrow it down.
Good luck!

Yes. I had my front rotors replaced on my 550 cab for this very reason. HOWEVER the dealer was very specific that they did me a "favor" as a long-time customer as I had the service done just after one year and they would not do it over 12K miles or 12 months.

I would take it in ASAP if you're at 13 months now

konigstiger - two questions ...
1. '71 Pinto, really?! I had one of those until we dropped a V8 in the back and turned it into a dragster. It died an honorable death when a driver wrapped it up a few times too many ...
2. I see some Service Bulletins/TSB's/LI's that mention a specific model year (MY) and some that don't. How do I tell the differences between MY variances?

konigstiger 07-10-2013 06:00 PM

If bulletin references model year (MY), production range, and /or VIN range etc. coverage is of course limited. If not, bulletin should cover listed model(s) regardless of MY and VMI (vehicle master inquiry) confirms eligibility - i.e.: bulletin references modified part without MY, given production date VMI and/or EPC (electronic parts catalog) should confirm if part was already installed at production.

Konigstiger, thank you for posting this info.

I dropped my car off (2012 E550 sedan) at the dealer a couple of days ago because of a vibration in the steering wheel while braking, along with a strange noise in the front which I thought was normal.

The tech could not find anything wrong. I then went online and found this forum and I think I found two service bulletins you posted that apply to my car.

LI42.10-P-0555595 FEB13 – 212.091 E550 4matic, grunting noise from front axle area during medium / hard braking (similar to allowing vehicle to creep slowly from a stationary position with brakes partially applied), replace front brake pads.

LI42.10-P-054524 SEPT12 – 212.072/090/272 front brake vibration. Thickness fault on brake disk replace pads and disks.

I emailed the dealer with the info and hopefully they end up replacing the brake pads and disks on my car. One question, when Mercedes issues a service bulletin and the dealer performs the repairs they are reimbursed by Mercedes for parts & labor, right?

From my understanding, yes they get paid for the parts and labor but they have an internal labor rate that amounts to less than what a private mechanic would get paid. Maybe even 30% less than a private mechanic sometimes. This is why dealers are annoyed at doing warranty work. Can anyone chime in on this?

The dealer says the tech knew about the bulletins, but refuses to replace the pads or rotors under warranty because my car is 19,000 miles (warranty for pads & rotors is 12,000 miles) and doesn't feel the vibration is bad enough. They said if I want to replace the front pads and rotors it's close to $1,000. Very disappointed.

Which dealer is refusing to do the work? Get the word out via this forum, yelp, etc. to warn your fellow MB owners. A premium brand should take care of the owners of their cars. Thanks.

Is this the first time you have documented this complaint?

Is there a history of this complaint made by you on previous visits before 12K elapsed?

Have you talked to the Service Manager? MBUSA?

Good news. After voicing my displeasure with my service advisor, he spoke to the service manager who then spoke to MBUSA and they approved a one time "good will" repair and replaced the front brake pads and rotors at no charge. The car feels much better now. Thanks.

HOWEVER :), LI30.30-P-057139 AUG13 – 212 & 207 with Collision Prevention Assist (258) may warn for no obvious reason,

In my MY 2011 212 P2, we frequently get a "beep beep" for no reason, no cars or any kind or obstruction nearby, no chance of police or other radar emissions. And there is absolutely no message of any kind. Disconcerting at times . . .

Is it possible that's what this notice is talking about?

HBerman 09-07-2013 07:46 PM

Konigstiger,

Could you please translate what NAG2, OM651 / OM642 are? I have a 2013 E550 with this issue. I had the vehicle into the dealer last week, but the technician said that the latest software is installed.

NAG2 = (Neues Automatische Getriebe 2) New Automatic Gearbox 2 another name for 7-speed transmission. OM651 & 642 = diesel engines. Check your email.

HBerman 09-08-2013 07:09 PM

Got it! Thank you. I've just noticed another anomaly with the transmission in "S" mode. The car will not start in 1st gear if it was originally started with "E" when shifted from Neutral. Shifting back to Neutral and then to Drive restores the 1st gear start. This may be all related, but not sure. I'll let the tech sort things out.

The technician made the following determinations:

The car IS starting in D1 when in "S" mode. The engagement surge that I was feeling (depressing the left paddle) is due to the transmission clutches being reengaged after running free. Also, MBUSA says that the jolt that I have been noticing is NORMAL (WAD) for engine 278 and 4Matic. The bulletin applies to MY2012 and up if the transmission software update had not been installed. The additional tip about greasing the drive shaft to address the issue apparently does not really fix the complaint, but can lessen the jolt if there was inadequate grease.

LI32.25-P-048218: THUMPING NOISES FROM VICINITY OF REAR AXLE

I'm getting a dull thud/thump from my rear axle on my 2010 E63 AMG when going over bumps, specifically depressions such as manhole covers. I searched through this forum for service bulletins related to this particular issue but couldn't find any. I then did a web search and came across this:

LI32.25-P-048218: THUMPING NOISES FROM VICINITY OF REAR AXLE

Does anyone have any more info on this? Not even sure if it's applicable to the E63's suspension.

Thanks for any and all help.

(1) Paintwork does not cover entire area of attachment point between rear of fuel filler flap and filler flap arm, substrate absorbs moisture at this point. (2) The retaining strap can become twisted from opening the tank filler cap this can cause the retaining strap to wedge behind the hinge arm obstructing closing sequence. The height of the stop buffer located on the left of the tank recess can impair the opening and closing behavior of the fuel filler flap. Remedies: cut off stop buffer on the left of the tank recess as this will help to improve the opening and closing behavior, replace filler flap.

I just bought a CPO 2011 E350 4Matic Sport. I noticed today when sitting idle, the AC/Heat blower fluctuates in speed when set at a level 3 or higher. You don't notice it with the radio on and it is hard to notice while driving with the radio off. But sitting at a light or in park....it blows harder, then softer, etc. I did a Google search and came across a website called eautorepair.com (mitchell's). It shows a TSB that may be my issue, but want you to pay a subscription to see it. So a couple questions:

** Is a site like that worthwhile to pay to use to get access/alerts on TSB's for my MB/

** Does anyone have details of the following TSB: LI83.30-P-056980 · BLOWER OUTPUT OF AIR CONDITIONING FLUCTUATES, LOSES POWER OR STOPS OCCASIONALLY

Thanks in advance!

I want to be 100% sure that these two issues are affecting my Benz and then bring up the issue to my dealer. In a third world country it is not easy to do these things so how do I confirm that these issues are in fact a reality ?

Glad I started lurking on the W212 page! This stuff is great. Looks like it covers my car too (2013 C250 with M271 Evo and 7G Plus). Glad to see I don't have any issues to deal with.

Do you think other auto manufacturers have this many bulletins and recalls? Or do they have just as many problems but don't report at the dealer level?

For those of you who had this issue, how much did the rear bumper stick out at this point? There is small gap between the bumper cover and the body panel, but it does not protrude out from the side of the car. My car is pre Jan 11 but my service history does not show this repair. While the additional latch may not be there, perhaps it is not a problem for all.

If it were me I would request goodwill replacement. Bulletin documents inferior seal installed at production allows for water ingress causing soundproofing to deform, MB requires modified seal to correct – one can either discuss this with service manager or have CAC (800-367-6372) open a case for review.

Transmission not shifting?

Have noticed if I am going down an incline at 30 MPH for about 1/2 mile and then get on level streets, the transmission doesn't shift to a higher gear as it used to.
It seems that last time even when I used paddle shifters to shift up, the indicator showed a higher gear, but it didn't seem like it.
Have read that there are problems with the 722.9 NAG2 (7G-Tronic) transmissions, but not sure which I have. The Data Card shows 722906 02 473909 for a 2010 E350 with Oct. 2009 build date.
Haven't really noticed it in my other driving.
Thanks!

Live Oak 08-16-2015 05:28 PM

I'll add to this with a general observation that may, or may not, be relevant:

My experience is that the so-called "transmission learning" may not be helpful at all.

Over the 4.5 years of my 2011, I have on multiple occasions complained of hard (fear of damage) shifts when going up a gentle rise. No fault is ever found, of course, but usually the transmission is reset to default and the problem is gone. Then, over the months, the damn thing "learns" my driving and starts pounding the transmission again!!! I then go through the same cycle with service. I'm sure this would be different for each individual driver.

I wish I could get a reset and then turn off "learning!"

Thanks Konigstiger.

My '14 E250 (40K miles) had the intermittent PB warning lamp issue, which I never seen, but the wife did a few times. Of course I blamed it on her touching the PB somehow. Anyway, my dealer did work on it and replaced the relay as indicated. Still testing this fixed, since it was an interment issue.

Interesting enough the service tech also has a '14 E350 which he also stated his wife noticed this issue, yet he never had. Guess we got to trust our wives a bit better when they tell us the strange happenings and gremblem's :smash:

I love this thread and really wish they had one in X204 section. I have a clunky upshift from 3-->4 on no/very little throttle on 2015 GLK350 with 7G Plus. Would love to take a TSB in to dealer - they claim all is well.

This is an awesome thread, I should subscribe and stay on top of these.

Does anyone know if the repairs for the service bulletins only apply during the initial warranty period? How about with MB extended warranty?

I will be checking with my dealer as well. They did replace free of charge two seat back shells on the driver and rear passenger seats that have cracked along the thread lines. That was on a 2011 last year (2015). The original warranty was expired and I was told the MB extended warranty we purchased did not cover it. They had to review it and agreed to replace free of charge which was very generous of them. The light grey mb-tex covers had to be shipped in from Germany as apparently there was none in stock anywhere in the US.

Very odd that I just had this recall item fixed at MB yesterday. I'm surprised previous owner never had it done since it seems to be quite old. Xentry bulletins are only covered under warranty i.e.: initial factory or extended. However, in this case as it applies to your 212 because the bulletin documents a known problem (defect) within a specific VIN range “before A27110”. Since A080969 is within range reference bulletin to service manager and request he/she contact MB to see if they will approve goodwill assistance unless you have a MB extended warranty then it should be covered.

Note, no reference to leather or MBtex surface therefore as it currently reads it should apply to both.

My Technician had to take the valve body out today and check the solenoids/valves. Same problem still persist.
what is the likely problem? what do you suggest.

Best regards

Help with data card

Konigstiger:
I purchased my CPO 2010 E350 coupe from a M-B dealer, but the owners manual was missing and I received no data card - only what the dealer listed on their used car sticker. The dealer ordered an owners manual for me, but I did not the full data card information.

I would appreciate it if you could check and PM me the data card for WDDKJ5GB0AF018626.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings Konigstiger,

Maybe you can help me with your wisdom. I want to change the factory springs to H & R s, however the sellers only list it for a E 350 and says it will not fit the E 250. My question is aren't both setups the same as far as the springs and shocks ? Thanks in advance.

I spoke with them and they cannot verify that it will work because they have never fitted on a E 250, is there a way to find out the part # for the springs for a 350 and 250 with sports package? If the factory springs are the same then it will work.

Parking lights activating unintentionally

Took my car in and had them check to find out why passenger side parking lights came on by themselves twice in past year and once in year before. They ran an Xentry check and everything was normal.
However, I found on another site (True Delta) that there is an 08/29/14 TSB re: electrical and air conditind; "damaged ESC of driver circuitry side marker output."
Anyone know the TSB number because this sounds like my problem.

Thank you and I took the information you sent me a couple of weeks ago by PM to the dealership. SA printed out the XENTRY Final quick test log. Everything checked normal, including front and rear SAM's. Did have a few (!) due to "ECU not available" but those are for Sat radio, media interface, etc. that I don't use. SA said didn't really mean anything.
I do understand the parking lights system and have never turned them on. Lights stay on Auto, except very few times I actually turn on the headlights so I can activate the fog lights. Then I make sure switch is back on Auto.
Tru Delta said they got info from NHTSA and I went to their website for recalls and TSB's (AKA Manufacturer Communications). Couldn't find the TSB above.
Thanks again. At least I have it documented on work order that their is a complaint.

Hi konigstiger,

I have a question about the DTB P-B-54.70/218 bulletin. As far as I understood it was released on May of 2009. Does it mean that the cars produced later, 2013 E class for example, already have the latest software?

Erroneous warning happened to me 1-2 times when moving along the barrier. It also gave false warnings in rainy/snowy days. I took the car to the dealer and referenced to the service bulletin above. They said that they couldn't reproduce the error and that since my car is 2013, it already should have the latest software. Is that even true?

Thanks.

No matter malfunction could not be reproduced, dealer should still check for updates and confirm software is current then document this on your invoice.

Hm, the dealer calls itself "a 5 star dealership", but I hate when they say "we couldn't reproduce." I had the speedometer needle not working. It wouldn't move intermittently. I took it to the dealer and they said that they couldn't reproduce. I had to capture it on a video and go back to them the next day. Now they have ordered a new one for me. It is coming from Germany so will take some time.

I think the service bulletin you posted said "to flash the SGR". The dealer said that SGR was for the distronic which my car doesn't have.

Any advise on how to ask them to check for the latest software is appreciated. I asked to check for Comand update once - they didn't.

I take that to mean that basically it has autonomous braking where the car will brake itself. I thought that all I had was where you just get the red light flashing and a warning beep. It works! I once took my eyes off the road at the wrong moment (coming over a hill) and caught up with a tailback. The car yanked my seatbelt tight and hit the brakes just a tiny fraction of a second before I did. My front bumper ended up about 18 inches from the last car stopped in the roadway (stopping with full braking on dry pavement). My input probably helped, because I believe the auto-braking is a percentage of full braking, but the system definitely beat me to the pedal and got the braking started a fraction of a second sooner. When you are talking 55 mph (88.5 kph) and 18 inches (46 cm), fractions of a second count. If I had been asleep, drunk, or having a heart attack, I'd have hit that car, but I would have been going a LOT slower than without the collision avoidance system.

With 23K on the clock on a CPO car I bought with 17K on the clock after which I had almost immediately complained about brake pulsing, my dealer refused to try to get MB to replace them because the car was 3 years old. Then told me they would fix my fronts for $800-900.

Hi konigstiger,

Is that saying that Collision Prevention Assist is a sub function of Distronic Plus? I don't have option code 258 on my data card, but I have codes 233, 266, 271, and 300 (which all reference some form of autonomous driving/braking). My CPA doesn't seem to be working, as I never get a warning beep or anything, no matter how close I get to the car behind me (unlike other cars I have driven, I get the warning beeps). I don't even have the CPA menu in the dash options. The dealer says it is part of Distrionic and it's "working normal". How do they know it's working fine, if the thing doesn't even work. :nix:

Hi Konigstiger! I have been away for a loooong time, but was thrilled when I logged on to see you are still active on this forum. You have always been such great help.
My 2011 e350's Command control knob next to the center console armrest does not work correctly anymore. One night it just stopped having the ability to function by rotating it left or right.
Can you please let me know if I missed a recall or what your professional opinion may suggest?
Many thanks.

Hi Konigstiger and everyone

I am new to the forum, I have just recently purchase my 2012 W212 E350 Avantgarde with CPO (45,000Km). I have recently notice that at low speed the steering wheel makes what I can best describe (from another similar thread) a whipping sound (not creaking or groaning noise), somewhat faint to hear it, I have to turn off the radio to be able to hear it. A member here mentioned in that thread that "its normal", can you please share some light as to why it is or it isnt normal?

Does anyone one else has ever come across this or experience this? I own a W220 S-Class and it never makes such noise.

Thanks in advance.

Michael

Your issue might be different, but I experienced something similar with my 2013 E550 which is the the W212 body style. Below is the excerpt from the dealer invoice (thanks God was covered by the ELW)

Cause: STEERING SHAFT BOOT AND BEARINGS
Correction: ROAD TESTED VEHICLE, CONFIRMED SQUEAKING NOISE FORM STEERING SHAFT AT FIREWALL AREA. REMOVED UPPER STEERING SHAFT FROM STEERING COLUMN. R&R REAR LOWER ENGINE PANEL. REMOVED UPPER STEERING SHAFT FROM LOWER STEERING SHAFT.
REPLACED UPPERSTEERING SHAFT BOOT THROUGH FIREWALL AND BOTH
BEARINGS.REASSEMBLED, NOISE GONE.

My 2011 E550 does this every so often. It only runs for about a minute or two then resumes normal operation. This is maybe just normal updating, but it seems to happen oftener than any normal channel changes.

My 2014 car has over 180k miles, so warranty is long gone, but reading about all those extended warranties on emission parts, anybody has experience how it looks on ULEV cars?
I have to spend $2500 on new DPF for my Bluetec, what comes with over >2 months wait for rebuild to come from Germany.
I have MI showing DPF replaced 60k miles ago , so something is very wrong with this situation and having "the brick" occupying my garage for 2 months is not making me happy. Even I am happy with it when it drives ;)

Thanks. Knowing what to look for, I was able to find one for 2014 as well.
Seems only PZEV vehicles do have 10 years/150,000 miles warranty on emission parts.
Mine is ULEV and looks like 250 Bluetec was never PZEV.
Funny to observe maze of laws. What was in past called "California smog requirements" now is observed in 7 (?) states and the number keeps growing.
Meaning in any calendar year you can have E class build with at least 4 different smog requirements.

Hi Konigstiger,
I recently bought a 2014 E350 4matic in October and it has a rubbing/grinding noise that comes from the right front end when I back up, I thought it was a clearance issue with the tires but my husband says the tire isn't touching anything when I turn. Hi Konigstiger, thank you again for the Data Card for my CLS. Dumb question for you if I can? There are multiple items in the data card which aren't accurate for my vehicle, such as it isn't an AMG, it doesn't have designo leather, or has parking pilot (Code 235) to name a few. Would it be safe to say that a Data Card should be taken with a grain of salt?

I do have to say that I was impressed to see that my recent Smartphone Integration addition (Code 14U) was present in the Data Cara, Its nice to see this is a live document!

Thank you much for the dumb question.... Cheers!

I just purchased a 2012 E550 and the wood trim is terribly faded. It does not match the VIN range(WDDHF9BB4CA637501), but it very obvious that this is the issue as the wood is almost "blond" in some places. What are my chances of having MB replace my trim?

Random question, I see in some of the service bulletins the models are specified, and those with 4Matic are sometime called out separately. If a model is called out but not its 4Matic variant, should I assume the 4Matic version is not affected/covered by the recall? Or should I assume the opposite?

konigstiger 04-08-2019 09:54 AM

Depends on subject for the most part bulletins affect all model variants referenced unless there is a 4matic note e.g.: “except 4matic”, “212 4matic”, “+ 4matic”

Interesting to learn about the communications module. I thought mine was working okay, but the woman from MBRACE said they couldn't talk to it. So back to the dealer for a week of troubleshooting. They replaced the comms module.

If that is correct, it appears my engine number would fall in the range of when this issue was corrected?
Are these bulletin/recalls etc.. honored even if outside of warranty?

Your engine is within affected range. Xentry bulletins are normally only covered by factory and/or extended warranty however, in this case you can argue for MBUSA goodwill engine replacement due to documented production defect.

Our 2013 is getting the timing chain tensioner updates done because I read about it here, and was wondering why it had been rough on initial start-up. The dealer also found the cam seals leaking into the wiring harness and our Maxcare warranty is picking that up as well (we hope). There is a firmware update MB is pushing: 2019040001 ENG. SFT. - SA said that MB was doing this to bring all affected cars within "specification". After reading some other's experience with issues after this update was applied, including loss of power, we asked them not to apply this. Just got the car back and paperwork said they did not. This was posted about the time my car went in - doesn't have that campaign number and yes it was diesels. Frankly whatever might be "out of specification" is just fine by me on my car. I found it interesting that the M278 in the lighter '14 E550 tested in reviews slower than the '12s. I'll stick to my paranoia...

This may be a toughie. Just purchases a Canadian 2016 E63 S AMG Wagon. It came with no useable service data (Car came with all manuals and service booklet, but for a different VIN!) Only a shrug from selling dealer...not MB. MBUSA does not provide recall info on non-USA vehicles. My VIN is WDDHH7GB4GB202047 if you can provide any information. TIA

First question is I have 2014 E350 Sport and the driver seat cushion is coming apart at the seams, wondering if there was a thread on this and if others have this issue. Second question is, does anyone have link or a website that sells matte black grilles for my model of car along with other matte black accessories? Thanks in advance everyone.

MBUSA released bulletin, because a specific VIN range is not documented for 212 seat cover replacement is only covered under factory warranty. If you maintain your vehicle through MB dealer i.e.: scheduled services, etc. MB may honor goodwill replacement.

LI68.10-P-061068 MAR15 – 218 instrument cluster noise, dealer will apply felt to IC facade.

But that's for the CLS. Any idea what they might be doing to my car?

Seems typical SA BS. He said something about support clip TSB.. today he said the tech removed and reinstalled the IC and the rattle noise is gone. No further mention of a TSB. Picking car up tomorrow, fingers crossed that nasty rattle is gone.

Diesel engines, unlike gasoline engines, do not use spark plugs to induce combustion. Instead, they rely solely on compression to raise the temperature of the air to a point where the diesel combusts spontaneously when introduced to the hot, high pressure air.

Are there any bulletins for E250 BT WDDHF0EB9FB123990 for somewhat rough 1-2 shifts when cold? I also get a very occasional slamming downshift when driving aggressively, usually when rapidly transitioning from braking to acceleration.

Car is 2015 with 35k, hasn’t had transmission fluid changed yet. I also have not reset the adaptive shift logic yet. If that is recommended the procedure would be very useful. Thanks ahead of time for any help.

The US Bluetec settlement has 12 car categories, with different parts replacement. For example my 2015 Sprinter will get only NOx sensors, when 2014 E250 (same engine) will get almost whole new exhaust with emission components.
Here is the site with details.

Good question for other countries is will MB voluntary extend the modifications past US borders?
Long dispute about it in diesel section.

Hi Konigstiger,

This is probably a stupid question, but I recently purchased a 2010 E350 with faded walnut trim. Is there any chance a dealer will help me out replacing the trim per the service bulletin? I think I know the answer, but ... Thanks!

Paxfobiscum 05-04-2021 10:15 AM

Hhhmm... are wooden interior trims being recalled now? Unless it poses a particular danger to the consumer, or considered mechanical defects, then I see no reason why wooden interior panels will be recalled.

With that said, you can order ANY PART from your dealer for an Mercedes vehicle. And since that car is more than 10 years old, that part will be VERY expensive.

I had a friend who owned a 1964 280SL.
He got into a fender bender and destroyed his front grill.
His MB dealer said they could get him the exact same grill for his car... for $12,500.
Good luck.

.

No harm in asking especially if purchased from MB dealer and/or vehicle was serviced/maintained by MB dealer(s) easily confirmed by reviewing Vehicle Master Inquiry (VMI) with any MB dealer. Present both bulletin versions 3 & 4 (version 3 stipulates 8/2011 clean point), your vehicle shipped 3/8/2010. If MBUSA/dealer offers goodwill assistance weigh your satisfaction on parts kit 2126801293 can be had for $400 then factor in labor (see attachments). If not, check http://www.2040-parts.com/10-13-merc...1293-i1334751/ - make sure offer is current, shipping cost, and confirm parts are new.

Thank you very much!

As always, I appreciate the information and advice I get from this site, but I feel obligated to give a heads up to anyone thinking about placing an order with 2040-parts.com. I sent them a message last week on their site asking them to confirm the price and condition (new/used) of parts kit 2126801293 and got NO response of any kind. I looked at their blog and noticed that the last post was in 2014. That made me a bit suspicious, so I googled them and got a LOT of scam alerts. If you are thinking of giving them your credit card information, google them and read up first. I have decided to look elsewhere even if I have to pay a little more.

Searching for similar information for my car, I found this link https://www.lastvin.com/

If the link is legit, I wonder if it should be part of the tools in the forum.

Also, this video is worth watching to know what is involved
