Power folding mirrors not available not even as an option.

I can't believe you can't even order power folding mirrors for the new E-Class even as an option. And MB compares this car to the Lexus and 5 Series BMW, what the heck!

Anyone know what MB cut out this car to lower the price?

I have a Thread which states my opinions on some areas of where some cost might have been cut. Some interior materials I think play a part in it.

To note, the U.S W211's also don't have power folding mirrors.

Dema 06-04-2009 02:16 AM

I guess passenger mirror doesn't tilt down at reverse as well. These features are standard on any BMW from 1 to 7. Certainly MB will lose customers toward BMW.

Ya, but the thing that really sucks is that the new W204 has the folding mirrors as an option.

The option I REALLY want is the thigh extender seat like on the S, CL, and SL cars.

I would feel like a jerk with a brand new MB with all kinds of options to have to walk around the car every time to close or open the mirrors.

The new E class I sat in had a storage compartment under each of the two front seats which tends to pop open very easily.

FYI, the Canadian versions of the C350 and GLK350 have folding mirrors as standard. Go figure.:nix:
No folding mirrors offered on 2008 or 2009 E Class.

Diesel Benz 06-05-2009 02:10 AM

Those come with option code 249 in Europe.

Not sure whether s US Dealer would be able to order this option, thanks for the code I'll try anyway.

Idk about GLK in US, but yes in US, C350 has power folding mirror standard since on C350, vs C300, Premium I package is standard (which includes dimming mirrors and speed sensing wipers).

A couple of thoughts:

You might be able to special order the power folding mirrors if they are important to you. Speak to your dealer who can speak to MBUSA.

There actually is more standard equippment in this car.

Someone mentioned a thigh extension, according to the dealer the optional Appearance package includes multi-contour seats which includes a pneumatic thigh extension for the driver.

Ya, I have that currently on my E320 with the comfort package (comes with dynamic seats). They took out that feature on the E350s, E550s, and idk if the E63's with multicontour seats comes with those. The CLS63 doesn't even come with dynamic seats, only multicontour w/o massage and the CLS550 just comes with a manual lumbar lever (versus the CLS500 which came with multicontour seats and the CLS55 coming with dynamic multicontour as an option). I have back problems (thanks to high school football :D), so I'm picky about cars in regards to 4-way lumbar support. The thing it does is you can adjust the firmness of the area under your thigh. What I want is what the S, CL, and SL has were the part of seat you sit on can be made longer.

Yeah the S/CL/SL seats are cool the way the thigh comes out. This is something new though, I got to try it when I sat in the car. There is an actual thigh extension on the new E-Class Coupe. It isn't the same way the S/CL/SL entire cushion moves out, but in this one the front part of the leg rest moves out. When my dealer gets an E-Class coupe in I will try to take a video.

Good news too is that the new E-Class Sedan has an optional Drive Dynamic Multi-contour driver's seat, glad that option was brought back.

They had the power folding mirrors and tilt down on reverse on the W204 in 2008, but MB got rid of it in 2009, but will again have it as an option for 2010. So who knows what they'll do with the W212. Its not really MB's call, it MBUSA that keeps screwing us US buyers by not providing options available in the rest of the world.

A very good point...wonder if this is another features "enhancement" after negative customer feedback on the folding mirrors?

This would be the same type of enhancement that disabled the dipping passenger side mirror feature when in reverse - a minor pain to get an MB tech at the dealer to enable it, but a pain nevertheless. :nix:

Do you guys know how to have the tilt down feature enabled? I have wanted to get mine enabled but wasn't sure what to do.

Approach your dealer's service department and ask them to re-enable the function through the STAR diagnostic system.

I had to ask twice - the first time the service advisor had no idea what I was talking about and thought he said he requested it, I don't think he did; the second time was the charm and both the advisor and tech knew what I wanted and got it done.

About 6 years ago, I was in Thailand and my friend had a new Camry, 4 cylinder but fully loaded. Anyone who has been to Bangkok knows the traffic jam in Bangkok is one of the worst in the world! There was a narrow space for his car to squeeze through so I commented it would help if the side mirrors could be folded back. So he push a botton and said like this? I was really impressed to say the least! Now this was Camry with 4 cylinders and this feature was standard according to him. I told him that my E500 did not have this feature and he looked at me in disbelief! Wake up MB!

MBUSA is a POS. Cheap *******s started cutting back so much with MY05 and up. It really sucks how they are taking out all this stuff that made a MB, a MB.

In some European market, this is standard in Elegance version.

That may be the case, but they still come with option code 249, just see the data card.

I have those folding mirrors on my car but I cannot remember if I've ever even tried to use them. No value in our traffic, on the contrary, I prefer them not folded when the car is parked, making pedestrians stay further away from the car. If there was an option to have the car without, I would not hesitate. The MB idea in Europe has been that the car is built to include what you want and you don't have to pay for something you don't want to. Even if it was standard, it would cost you. Now the new E is a bit different, they have packages a bit like in the US. The problem with MBUSA is that they don't allow the buyer to select some options that do exist, no matter what one was ready to pay.

Unfortunately that thinking doesn't work like that in the States. Every morning I walk through my parking lot at the train station and see people just bumping into cars and mirrors left and right. I've seen people hitting other people's cars and not even having the common courtesy to leave a note saying that they are sorry. People are A**holes over here; sad really...

I don't understand people's behaviour but yes, I have understood that folding mirrors are a must at several markets. My intention was not to say that those are generally useless, I was just trying to say that in my opinion it is good if those are an option instead of standard like on my 221.

Personal preferences are often different, sometimes well understood, sometimes just based on feelings but in every case one has to accept that.

gaazmon 06-13-2009 04:41 PM

I used to use it all the time on my 94 S420, God I miss that car
