Porsche Macan S SportDesign / Ex M-B's: 11 & 10 & 06 E350's, 02 S500
REALLY sucks M-B is doing a soft-top for the Coupe, in this day and age, especially for a Premium Car brand, you've gotta go hard-top Vert, I know the E-Coupe is really a C, but it's still priced like an E, and BMW's freakin' 3-Series has a hard-top Convertible!

They probably saved several hundred pounds using a soft top and some feel a soft top is still more luxurious than an all metal top ie Bentley.
One good thing is if they used a folding hard top those stupid little extra rear side windows might still be there lol...
Anyone know when the cabrio is due for the US?

MB strategy is that a fourseater should be a softtop, a twoseater a hardtop. They're sticking to it right now.
I prefer a hardtop as well, both for convenience and styling.

The Coupe does look striking in that pic, and the lighting and angle is perfect in capturing it.
I've seen enough in person to know that the car doesn't always give that effect, I find most to be kind of ho-hum, even despite all the lines and styling going on, and off-proportioned. The A5/S5 are great looking cars, some lower models can be a bit bland of course, but with the right make-up, i.e that RS-5, it's a car that is aggressive as well as easy on the eyes, and will look good from every angle IMO.
I've seen some angles on the E-Coupe that make me want to rush out and buy one, but too many (especially when viewing in the real world) don't leave much of an impression on me.

The new RS5 is due to be released in Germany this month. The car has a 450 hp DFI V8 with a new 7 speed dual clutch gearbox, the car is flared and rides on 20's. The msrp is supposed to be in the mid $70's and if that is indeed the case it's a bargin.
This car is simply exquisite and I hate to say it but imo it blows the E550 coupe away in most every way.
I don't believe MB is doing a 63 version of the coupe but if it does it will be close to 90K and still wouldn't have the lines/looks of the RS5.

Great if you live in Europe. No doubt Audi won't export it.
But if they do, I might be in line. Assuming the performance is there (which I'm guessing will be.)
The only thing about the Audi design is that USA plates look kinda weird on that big mouth grill. It's obviously made for Euro plates.
Oh, and maybe they could offer a RWD version (just for me ) Or move that motor back even more. Just get that funky push feeling finally gone from the chassis.
p.s., that car is definitely hot!

The last E550 coupe I saw was about $67k with P2 and apper pkg, so about an $8k diff...if AMG did a 63 version of the E coupe it would be very close to $100k. IF the RS5 comes here and is around $75k it will be a bargin...

Car may have also had distronic, but I know for certain it had apper and P2. The car did have black wood and I think that required premium leather for more $. The car was silver/black so there was also another $750 for paint...

How can you compare a fully loaded merc with a base rs5? I would say the price delta is roughly 15k apples-to-apples

From the little bit of info that's known the RS5 comes very well equipped and even has 20's standard. If a very well equipped E550 is $67 and the very well eqipped RS5 will be $75 then the diff is $8k; plus the RS5 will drive circles around an E550 and look so much better while doing it to boot...As I also stated if MB did a 63 version of the coupe it would be closer to $100k just like a new very well equipped 2010 E63. It is still questionable if we are even getting the RS5 here but I know one thing, for $8k or even $15k more it's a no brainer as the RS5 has it all over the E550 coupe. Even if MB did a 63 E coupe unless they did some heavy masculine styling tweeks it would not match the looks of the RS5, but I'd bet the AMG would be faster however.
As you can see from my sig, I've been a new MB coupe buyer for years but this new one misses the mark...the best good looking non S coupe was the W208 series; the w209 aside from being pillarless and getting the bigger V8 (both positives) over the 208, was also too feminine looking. There were many female W209 buyers compared to the 208's and MB tried hard to please them with the new car. I'm also not too crazy about the new AMG wheels for the E class either.
No offense to you or your car personally...it's just how I feel.

all your other comments about the rs5 price / features / etc etc is all conjecture at this point and i'm not going to argue with you.

no offense taken. i love my car. i drove over to the audi dealership and looked at my car and the s5 side by side. the audi looks dreadfully boring next to it.

No point arguing because I don't think it is coming over. Audi is smaller than MB and the margins on the cars are smallest among the 3 german luxury brands. I think with the smaller numbers and smaller margins and the economy not doing so good Audi will not bring it over from what I know because the selling price would have to be too low. They are on the fence because they may bring the Audi TTRS over instead. The S5 is selling well so may not need the RS5 for the image boost while the TTRS will boost the TT image and sales more while that segment is very competitive with the Cayman, and Z4.

but i think if you spent some time in person around the e550c you would change your mind, if only slightly. the pictures don't do it justice...
on a different subject, the RS5 - an inexpensive R8? sweet. i would love to get an RS5 for my next car... in about 4 years...
