How big is HD in E class? Is there any simple procedure to clean disk if I sell my car or buy a used one?

I will check local Fry's for PCMCI cards. I have one for CF, but SD version can be more useful. I have also DVD drive with PCMCI adapter. I will check if I can utilize it.

About 6Gb is available for music. It's easy to delete all the files via an option in the menu but I don't begrudge the next owner my taste in music. I might even create a convert.

I used to use the PCMCIA slot, until I connected a 16Gb USB drive in the glove compartment.

I've been using all three interfaces, including my 32gb iPhone, but mostly 4gb CF.
I've tested the same music tracks on all three interfaces, but only one sounds the best.

Go Figure!! Do I need to give a clue?

Of course the one with the mind of it's own, the iPhone with it's own cpu etc. (probably better sound synthesizer before feeding to the MB processor).

The other advantage of the usb is the ability to create playlists and browse those like folders

MB is now selling a PCMCI Adaptor. Has anyone tried this one?

I haven't tried MB's PCMCIA adaptor but I bought a SANDISK adaptor on ebay for about $30 which works fine. Just make sure that it reads SDHC, PRO Duo, etc. cards (see specs below). I also use the USB cable (from MB for about $55), and IPOD and MP3 cable that came with the car.

I just bought a PCMCIA card reader from Micro Center for $8 and it works perfectly.However,I've only tried it with a 2GB card containing about 40 MP3's.Today I'm gonna use an 8GB card and load about 500 songs onto it.If this fails I'll report back.

I tried that card reader with an 8GB CF card onto which I transferrred about 1200 MP3's (all 320 bitrate) which totaled about 7.8GB...everything worked like a charm.Can't recall the maker of the card reader but Micro Center's website would have it.I paid about $8 for one at one of their stores.

I bought the USB adapter from Benz, about 50 bucks. Then bought a 32 gb USB stick for about 35 bucks. The PCMCIA just did not even come close to the capacity of the thumb drives out there these days. Plus like posted earlier, you can create folders of favorites etc. Don't know about the sound quality of USB vs PCMCIA; stopped looking for PCMCIA once I had the 32 gb memory stick.

As an experiment I loaded a 32GB thumb drive with about 1800 songs totalling about 30GB and hooked it up via the glove box USB port.It worked like a charm but would only play 1000 songs...but those songs were perfect.I continued the experiment with the same USB drive....30GB...but only 700 songs.Everything was flawless....all 700 songs played perfectly.I've ordered an MB card reader into which I'll place a 16GB SD card with more than 1000 songs.I'll see what happens then.

You didn't look far. The CF cards you can get up to 128gb, and you could of bought a 32gb card and a PCMCIA adapter for 20 less than you paid for your adapter and stick.

I don't have that much music. I bought the 32 GB on an impulse. My whole PC doesn't have more than 15 GB of MP3's. I suppose that could all change with more downloads, etc. but so far don't think i'll need the capacity. I have the 6 Gigs from the onboard loaded up already.

I wish I could load address and contacts on the USB though. Now that would be a better way to upload that info to the command. Anybody know if that will work?

It just appeared to me you were concerned about that capacity of the PCMCIA versus the thumb drive. They both offer the same capacities.

got to admit that the capy of the thumbdrive caught my eye, but I bought the 32 gb stick after I already had the USB adapter for the glovebox. I did look around for the PCMCIA adapter with no success where I live, other than MB. I never really looked at the memory cards for the PCMCIA adapter once I had such a hard time finding PCMCIA adapter. I opted for the USB adapter for the glove box since USB sticks are everywhere. Plus it did not require me to have a card stuck in the middle of the dasboard.

What do you mean with the card stuck in the middle of the dashboard? The USB adapter in the glove box is out of sight but also out of reach for the driver. The PCMCIA adapter on the head unit sits flush to the head unit face and I would be much more concerned about CDs/DVDs getting stuck than the PCMCIA adapter if that is what you mean.

I must admit I have no idea what the PCMCIA adapter looks like when the card is inserted for the reasons stated above. Sounds like it looks just fine. However, with 32 GB in the glove box, 6 gigs on the hard drive plus 6 cds in the changer, I really have not had much need to fish around in the glovebox changing the USB stick while driving anywhere. Guess it is a moot point since there appears to be an abundance of memory available for just about format you want to use. There is even a 48 GB memory stick available at the store where I bought the 32. They just happend to be out of stock. Heck the laptop I am wrighting this thread from only has a 62 GB solidstate drive. I doubt I'll come close to using all the memory avaiable these days. Unless they come up with some new super high defi music format that requires lots and lots more memory.

Yea using the PCM adapter with card installed sits flush inside the slot and is hard to tell one is even in there. If a person has 32g of memory for music, I'm sure wherever they put it it won't require changing out much. 32g of capacity should provide well over 100hrs of listening pleasure.

It should, but does not. There is this 4000 songs limit that can be avoided with multiple cards.

Why do people buy iPods with more than 32 GB drives?

My experimentation showed a 1000 song limit.Further experimentation showed that 15GB of music totalling 700 songs played flawlessly while 15GB totalling 1200 songs would only go to song 1000.

Because this limit is releated to FAT32 formating. An Apple iPod running native has not limitations. I have over 60GB on an 80GB iPod Classic and it works flawlessly.

My point was that there does seem to be an interest to have a lot more music than 32 GB.

PS. I'm not a PC expert but wikipedia says 1024 GB is supported with FAT32:
"limiting volume size to 2 TiB on a hard disk with 512 byte sectors".
