I had an IS350. I hacked that one for Video in Motion, but it required some wiring changes. The engineering menus were not nearly as easily changed in the Lexus. Never really used it, but I did it cause it could be done.

Success, now streaming bluetooth audio! Thanks to WWMIndy and AJRDU for providing the missing steps. For my iPhone 3GS, the key was first to de-authorize my phone and then use external authorization to reconnect.

I was able to get Bluetooth streaming on my iPhone to work, but it looks like it looses the connection every time I turn off the car and leave. Then when I come back, it won't connect to the Bluetooth audio again. Does this happen to anyone else? I have in iPhone 3G.

jumper4000,

I have an iPhone 3GS and have the same problem. Each time I have shut off the car, I need to re-connect the iPhone for bluetooth music streaming, using the external authorization.

I think the whole Bluetooth audio implementation in W212 is buggy. That's probably why it's hidden in the Engineering menus. Hopefully, they'll fix it with a free firmware update.

Same issue for me; won't remember the iPhone 3GS after I shut off the car and have to reconnect each time to get bluetooth music streaming. Unless we're missing some magic step(s), agree it must still be buggy and that's why it's not normally implemented

I'm sorry to get a little off topic in this post. Congratulations to those who can stream BT audio with the 3GS and for those who can't, keep trying!

I have a 2010 GL350 BlueTec and I wanted to know if the codes are any different for accessing engineering mode. I want to see and post pics of the GL's engineering mode and compare it to the E. Does anybody in this thread have codes?

Thanks!

Nice find. Got it work on my BB Storm. Initially wouldn't give final authorization, but instead of 'Update' to Bluetooth list and having car look for the phone, I allowed 'External Authorization' for phone to find the car, and it worked first try. Did songs from memory card, and Pandora, both worked great.

VIM (video in motion)? copied post from benzworld.org. not sure if this works for w212s. will try it later...
For me it works and i can enable video in motion and also choose the region for DVD.... here this is how i do it... press the "mute button" + "Phone down button" + "SERV button" in the above sequence and hold for about not more than 10 secs and then you would get into "ENGINEERING MODE" and then press "1" +"4" +"7" also in sequence while holding them down, you should get into "Update Mode" and it would say pls insert update CD, then press the back button at the botton right of the screen and you would be back into :Engineering Mode" then you press "1" + "4" +"7" and then also in sequence and holding them down.....you should be able to see the "drvdist" and "region setting" enable on the screen

I tried it just to verify. It does not work on W212/C207 COMAND units.

Video in Motion

As mentioned before, press End call - 1 - # buttons all at the same time for 10 seconds and the screen gets you in the Engineering Menu.

While in that screen press: End call -4 - # buttons at the same time for 10 seconds and a second screen is available. But this new menu is not the Video Menu.

Look like it controls some settings for the Navigation System.

For the Video in Motion, no news...

WOndering if RN stands for Registered Nurse and you're looking for more business.

Kidding....I will probably do the hack too. I thought I had read somewhere that you can get a different cable to make it work.

I read somewhere that some people have had success hacking the Mitsubishi head unit, which is the same as MB for video in motion. I think it involved taking a hard drive image and changing some hexadecimal code. It was pretty high tech stuff, but if we have any hard core hackers here, I can go look for the info again, and post it here. I would try it myself, but I don't have the time these days... I don't really care much for VIM, but I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to be able to use the navigation while driving.

This is easy in the Lexus GX 470. Within the Nav system you select audio and then touch the screen a couple of times at certain points and the Nav system enters a maintenance mode where you hit and hold an override selection. After that you can enter addresses at will and change destinations while moving. It stays that way until you turn the engine off.

Not that this will work with the MB system but it seems someone will find a pretty easy to do what you want to do. My E350 is not due in until next week or I would go play with it.

These are some interesting links from other forums, but complicated stuff for Video in Motion

https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...-hack-vim.html

http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/engin...07.html?page=1

http://mitsubishiforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27471

Based on this, can someone check if this works on the W212 ?

Good luck, we've all tried long and hard, and so far, there's no easy way (or hard way) to use the navigation while driving. Of course, you can use your voice, which works pretty well, but it's not great.

I read somewhere that they're the same, and they both use the Microsoft Windows CE operating system

Video in Motion

If I understood correctly (analyzing the other threads..), Video in Motion in the W212 is pretty complex..

1- Remove the command from the dashboard, and find the hard disk.
2- Remove the hard disk from the command (need to park it previously??)
3- Connect the hard disk to your PC
4- Find the boot file or the file that controls the speed from Video
5- Edit the file (Excel?) and change the speed
6- Save the file changed
7- Reconnect the Hard Disk to the Command
8- Insert the Command into the Dashboard

Can someone confirm this?
Did someone try this?

Any manual around? There's too much out there that we don't understand and I don't want to screw something up...

If somebody can give me hints on dashboard removal and identifying the HD as well as locating the file I wouldn't mind trying.

by the way I was quoted $399 for a VIM kit.. not sure if its worth it..

As in "kit" does that mean it has some hardware versus just some directions on how to do it?
