Fog lights & Daytime LED question? W212
Hello all, my dad just picked up a new 2010 E 350 I believe it's a P2? as it has the hockey stick daytime lights and HID among others. I was helping him get acquainted with the new car as my wife & I are long time MBZ owners. I couldn't find how to turn the "Fog" lamps on on the front of the car? They seem to burn at a low output and stay on when the headlamps are selected but don't add any more illumination over the standard lamps. The LEDs where the fogs normally are mounted stay on but aren't bright unless used during the daytime. Do P2 cars not actually have fog lamps anymore?

You turn on the fog lamps by pressing the fog lamp button (front or rear; there are two of them) next to the light selector switch. If you don't have these two buttons you car is not equipped with fog lamps. All this according to the manual:

Vehicles with bi-xenon headlamps or with the optional light packages are equipped with LED-type daytime running lights and the front fog lamps in the bumper are not installed.

My car has P2 package and i can confirm - there are no fog lights if a car has P2. |
Interesting, I can't figure out why MB would charge you more for a "lighting package" and delete the fog lamps  I've driven the car at night, the oem HID is fantastic, but I personally like the added output from the sides and just in front of the car that fog lamps provide. I was scratching my head for about 20 minutes wondering if it was some new technology where the LED daytime lamps were the fogs etc... turns out you don't get them anymore on a $57K car. Does anyone know what the projector lamps are for inboard near the grille? They look like fogs, but stay dim like running lamps or park lamps?

fog lights?
I too have a E350 P2 with the lighting package and I too would like the additional lighting true fog lights deliver.

Infrared
I do love the Night View Assist (NVA) feature, but looking back and forth between reality and the center display is distracting for the driver. The NVA watching is best left to the passenger.
Interestingly, my light switch is still capable of being pulled out as if to turn on the "non-existant" fog lamps. |

The 212 Night View should have some improvements over the pre-facelift 221. How does it emphasize hot objects, like animals, perhaps you have never seen a moose at the camera view, not even pedestrians in the dark which is possible on European roads. I was just wondering if a warm/hot object becomes so strong on the display that it could be detected while the driver is watching the traffic in front? |

I've always thought about fog lights being white and in the front, but the switch turns on a bright red light at the left side as indicated. Duh! |
I always wonder why it is only one of our tailights that lights up and not both.

wait, if you order the P2 with HIDs you don't get front fog lights??? WTF is up with that.
But to be honest, i don't think you guys are missing out on the fog lights (at least on these cars). I have them and they don't help one bit in the fog. They shoot too low and the light is really weak. The rear is actually useful IMO. My 94 S420 had these center lights (same level as headlight) that shot yellow light (kind of like the 3000k HID lights you see), and man those were great. We get a lot of fog in my area so, the fog lights i have don't help at all. |

Interesting information, I've been under the impression that if the car was equipped with P2 the fogs moved into the head lamp cluster. As with a couple other posters here, I too feel the fogs aren't all that helpful, but at the price of the P2 package they should at least be included. I had a w163 ML that actually had an empty socket located inside the headlamp cluster for the addition of a fog lamp, which I did and they worked pretty well. They could have at least did that. I wonder if this won't be one of the things they address for the next model year.

If you have the intelligent light system, and if you activate the rear fog lights it will set the front headlights into some kind of fog mode.

opening an old threat.
I have a 2011 E350 4matic SPORT with the hockey light LED and would prefer to get the two round fog lights. 1) Are the bumpers the same on a 2010 and 2011? 2) is any reprogramming required to make it work and to avoid errors? 3) |

i have seen this on the w212 e class. but i cant get it so work on my car... So its probably some coding involved to enable this. Because it's illegal in europe to drive like that. But i want it for the look |
