I completely agree with 220S:

I drive E550, and I swear, the more I push it the better it handles. At lower speed it feels less confident.

I would go with Airmatic because it will give you options when you need them - higher curbs, high snow, etc.

I'm on the third Airmatic E-class now and the main reason has been that I've had Avantgarde models which would come with the lowered sports tuned steel springs as standard (smaller engine cars, no Airmatic standard). I don't mind the responsive suspension at most times but quite often I find the option to raise the car essential, a lot higher than the standard Avantgarde would do. Also often I do prefer the smoother ride from the default Airmatic setting. Airmatic allows all the options for different driving scenarios while steel springs would be good for one only (either smooth ride with standard steel springs or sporty ride with the Avantgarde or Sports steel springs).

Luckily in Europe Airmatic is available as an option for smaller cars too (I guess not any more for all models like it used to be with the W211, I think it is an option for V6 engines now, standard on bigger ones).

Hey Guys (Especially 220S),
Thank you for the responses. I'm pretty excited to hear that the airmatic is so well recieved. I am going to drive the car tonight and if all is well then I plan on buying / ordering it.

220S,
Is the P030 option you think my dealer will know about? Are there options available that are not published?

Thanks
Rick

Rick, the P030 is only available for the AMG cars. But if you have decided on an E63 instead of the 550, then yes, the dealer will know. Especially if your dealer is an AMG Performance Center dealer. The AMG E63 also has an option for Nappa leather and alcantara headliner.

If you are still getting an E550, check out any Designo options; you can discuss that with your dealer.

Guys,
What a difference. This car is incredible, I drove it in S mode on the Suspension and Transmission and I am happy to say that I am extreamly impressed. The salesman let me take on a second test drive where I switched it back to Comfort mode and I was like, Oh-No I immediatly switched it back to sport - I may have to tape the switch down

Anyway - I am going to start a new price thread where I'll list the details of the sale for your consideration. Please take a look.

220S - you are right the P030 option is not there. We went over all the options, some of which are not on the website, but no further performance enhancments from the factory... Yet...
Regards,
Rick

LOL,
Yes, but the car (212) will always default back to comfort mode when you shut it off. There has to be a Krack for this I'm hoping...

It doesn't revert back on the AMGs. So it's probably a software thing. Maybe it can be changed thru Star. Ask Steve at MBenzNL, he'd probably know.

C mode will come in very handy on crappy potholed roads, btw.

yes, the transmission does for the W212 (S to C mode), but does the suspension do the same??? i know with BMWs (my friend had an 07 530i) the tranny would not be in sport mode by default when you started the car.

The transmission will revert to C after you restart the car. The suspension will stay in the mode you left it in.

I cannot tell you just how CLUELESS salesman are. I am constantly teaching them how their cars work. All three times I took delivery I was explaining how the car worked to the salesman, not the other way around.

Your salesman is confusing C/S vs. suspension settings....

You're absolutely right. I've had my suspension in "Sport" mode and its stayed like that, even after shutting down and starting up the car.

The Transmission is the one that I have to click to go from C at start-up to S.

On the W212 E550, when both modes are in "S", you are going to enjoy it!
