2011 E-class engine size?

NONE of the sale representatives admit the turbo engine in 2011. Only one said the AMG will have turbo next year, the E350 and E550 will be the same solid N/A engine.

No wonder...sales people will not tell you that b/c they want you to buy current model.
I've heard new engine will start from 2012, but some people on this forum said they've red somewhere - from 2011.

A few weeks ago someone (220S, maybe?) posted a press release about the new engines. It should be somewhere on these forums...

Here is the article, but I have had no confirmation from anyone at MBUSA or dealers.

The E is available with the 350 Direct Injection gasoline engine on the UK site, but so far I have only heard of the E350 BlueTec being added for the US, and not with 4Matic either.

K-A 01-28-2010 10:16 PM

I am under the impression that all models will get the new engines in 2011 (MY). I'm still not clear about what's happening with V6's, be it 2 versions, one regular 3.5 with the new D/I, or if they're keeping the 268 HP version? And if they'll be adding a TT V6 as well (as it seems this is the case), as a mid-line model.

Either way, M-B is keeping it under wraps as much they can as to not discourage people from buying the 2010's. Salesman usually never know anything, so it makes sense they won't have any info, and even if they did, they won't admit it, as it's a bad Sales tactic. :D

It's a smart marketing move by them though, the F10 5-Series is going to launch with a lot of hype this year, and M-B will have to try and pull as much buzz toward their E-Class when it does.

I had a salesperson at Calabasas say this to me: "I don't want to know anything about what might be coming and when. Not knowing anything makes it easier for me to sell what's on the lot."

Holy hell is that a big pic! But seeing that thing in high res makes it look even more amazing.

What is the reason for this oversize post on the W212 thread?:topic:

It's all speculation until they start building the MY 2011. I'm like many who have purchased a 2010 E and don't want to see their car already dated.

I am pretty certain we won't see the new engines in the E-Class this year. Only the S-Class/CL-Class will get them for MY11.

3benz4me 04-24-2010 12:37 AM

If they were changing the engine for 2011, wouldn't they put it in the new 2011 E350 convertible? Everything I read states that the convertible will have the same engines as the 2010 E Class cars.

Ninjaryder 04-24-2010 02:23 PM

If HP remains the same for MY 2011 that would indicate no direct injection.

2011 is not getting direct injection, look at the 2011 Cabs they have the same engine as the current 2010 E-Class Coupe if that is any indication as I assume if they were going to switch to the new engine for 2011 the cabs would be getting it first as those are 2011 models.

ash_cpe 04-24-2010 02:43 PM

True, and also the convertible should be sportier than a family size sedan. Another thing I noticed that overseas E350 CGI doesn't come with 4matic for some reason...

petee1997 04-24-2010 08:32 PM

I have a 2011 W212 4Matic on order in Canada. Dealer told me the car will have same engine as SLK350 with 300 hp. There was no mention of a turbo only direct injection. The car is for my wife and I really don't care either way. She is trading a 2007 BMW 335i cpe. Even though both cars are rated a 300hp I doubt the MB will perform like her Bimmer. I should have a definite build date Monday and I will get confirmation on engines for Canada at the same time. I will keep you posted.

z0h 04-24-2010 08:47 PM

I received confirmation of a TT engine- from a dealer no less.

Germancar1 04-25-2010 07:05 PM

Interesting. Nobody seems to know for sure. The CLS concept just debuted a new 3.5L V6 with 306hp and like 275lb-ft of torque, but it is a "lean burn" DI engine meaning it won't be sold in the U.S. until the 2012 model year so it **seems**. Now the V8 for the 550 cars is probably going to roll out for the 2011 model year since the 5.5L AMG V8 had DI+turbos and it is definitely coming for 2011 in the S/CL63 models. I'm seeing anything from 400hp to 435hp and over 400lb-ft of tq. It appears that we may have to wait until the 2012 model year for a new V6 of any sort.

All this talk of a new V6 is all the more reason for considering an E550 the prime buy here to me.

Although I like the 3.5 V6, and find it suitable for my needs, it would probably be akin to the W211 E320 was after the E350 came out, just lacking in a major way. Although to be fair, I always found the 320 to be weak and sterile, while the 350 has enough oomph to keep things relatively solid in areas where you especially can't escape traffic.

lol j/k. ya it can be pretty weak. man the other day i was so pissed at her, she wouldn't give me any power (always happens when i let someone else drive the car). so lo and behold, i reset her throttle memory and WALLA!!! she's giving me what i want again :D

exciting to see what roles out this summer for the engines. from what i gather: 350 will get 3.5 V6 direct injection from SLK350 with 300 hp and 270 something torque (this will either happen for 2011 or 2012. C class should follow suit), 550 will get 4.6 or .7 V8 (similar to GL450 engine) twin turbocharged with somewhere north of 400hp and torque and 63 will get 5.5 V8 (similar to current 550 engine) twin turbocharged producing somewhere north of 520hp. The V8's should role out this year. V6 maybe, or maybe next year idk

Germancar1 04-26-2010 02:11 AM

A little off on the details there.....the SLK350's engine doesn't have DI. It was just re-tuned with a higher redline for more hp. The new V6 in the CLS concept is a totally new engine.

The new 5.5L AMG V8 has nothing to do with the current 5.5L V8 in the 550 cars. The new AMG V8 based on the upcoming V6/V8 engine family. Totally new design as is the new V8 coming for the current group of "550" cars.

LOL. Interesting. I gotta try that reset again sometime. Truth is, on the U.S roads, especially L.A, the E320 even has adequate power IMO.

And at least she still looks purdy. :)
