New W212 - Questions 7 Mods

Hey everyone,

I picked up my new W212 E550 yesterday. Loving it, but I'm still getting used to the changes from my '07 W211.

Couple of things:

1. Have anyone tried out a sprinterbooster with the new W212? Thoughts?

2. Has anyone found new clear side markers for the W212 yet? I want to get rid of the ones that come with the car, but I'm looking for quality replacements. Anyone have any experience with any?

3. Has anyone figured out how to get the navigation system to allow you to enter a new address while the car is in motion? I hate how it locks you out while you drive, especially if I have a passenger who could be working the controls.

Argh - It should have read "Questions & Mods"...

Thanks for the help.

1) why bother when you get the same engine response by using the gas pedal differently? Sprint booster does not make the engine any different.

3) probably difficult even with star, this must be an SCN coded feature but you could install a CAN bus speed signal killer (perhaps Midcity Engineering).

It's a preference thing. I had it in my W211 and found the biggest difference for me was the removal of the hesitation that sometimes occurs when you press the gas all the way down. But your right it doesn't add any more HP, but in my opinion it increase responsiveness.

I'll have to contact them to see what they have. Thanks for the tip.

Any ideas/experience on the clear turn signals?

Sprintbooster...
Personally I find the throttle response "sharp" enough when the transmission is in SPORT mode (around town, at least)

BTW - I've notice in my car that the transmission goes back to "C" everytime that I start the car. I have to manually switch it to "S" everytime.

Are you experiencing the same thing?

Yup, same here, just as the manual indicates.

Noticed one thing in the manual however... C or S selection should only be made when in Park.

believe the manual indicates car will always revert to C when restarted. Keeps suspension setting though

I noticed the point about suggesting you be stopped also when switching. I haven't been following that too closely. Will ask my dealer

I don't have a leased car and still keep switching through all the tranny settings while driving. This cannot be to protect the transmission but some extreme avoidance of liability if at very slippery conditions the program change would cause downshift and the car would lose grip in a turn... I find this user manual guidance pretty ridiculous.

Did anyone have a look at the pictures in that Ebay link? I think that's BigEvil's ride!

FYI - I have been trying to stop by the German dealer here all week to see what they can provide, but keep getting detoured. Once I get a chance to talk with them, I will let you know what they have to offer.

Cheers!

Thanks. Still kind of annoying. I don't want to keep switchig it back to "S". My '07 didn't do that. Is this another safety feature like "only use the navi while stopped"?

They say it is to make the car fulfil the promised fuel economy/CO2 etc. figures. Cars are taxed to some extent by CO2 in several European countries and the car is supposed to give the factory figures "by default car settings". I guess the US mpg figures could ask for the same.

FYI - Stopped by a German dealer today and they were no help in the OEM side marker replacement world. So, I think I will be ordering the smoked set on ebay as posted earlier in this thread.

Cheers.
