overridding the dvd function while driving

Not without an aftermarket module that will allow you to do that.

There was a kit on Ebay not too long ago, but not there at the moment.

there is a board sponsor that sells that module. It also allows you to input nav address while driving too.... Check the electronics section.

Does this impact your warranty in any way?

160$ on ebay at the moment.

def not going to pay for this option. i don't even watch dvds in the car when parked. initially wanted to tweak the command system so other passengers can watch movies when we go on long trips.

Has anyone picked up the $160 ebay version? How does it work?

I just asked the seller if the navigation can be used while driving, and this is what he said -

Hi,
Yes, you can use navigation while driving

Thanks

Anyone care to give it a try and let us know how it works?

I was concerned about this capability, so on a recent test drive of the 2010 E350 I tried to change the navigation destination while someone else was driving. Simply pressing down on the console control knob gave me the Nav menu from which I could select a new destination. I am unclear what exactly it is you can't do while moving.

Also my ML500 2002 Nav has an annoying legal warning every time I start, I didn't get that on this vehicle. I believe it was standard dealer stock.

I am not sure if this statement is true.... I know for a fact that you cannot enter destination manually while driving. You can enter it via voice control while driving tho...

most of the W212 E class comands are set to lock out the navi data entry when you are moving over 5km/h... If they are then the VIM212 will override this and allow entry data entry as well as video...

Rob, cannot find VIM212 on the website. Will VIM212 work on C207? (E Coupe).

Can it be installed by user?

You can choose previously entered/saved addresses. You cannot enter a new address using the knob while the car is in motion. (ie: you cannot use the knob to choose each number of the street address, then street name, city name, etc etc).

If this is true on the new E I'd be very disappointed - my 09 GL this is totally possible.
