e class sedan 2010 (e300)
A serious problem of New e class was found in a south Korean E class internet club.
please take a look at the picture in this site
http://cafe.naver.com/neweclass/2622
If you are a owner of new e class or who considering purchasing this car, you must open the glove box of passenger seat of e class. A material which consists inside the box looks like a kind of chemical fiber fablic will be seen. Then, wipe out inside the box with wet tissue, black fur- like chemical dust will be shown especially in the middle shelf. You will never clean up the dust completely however you try to get rid of this black dust. The black dust falls off endlessly as you clean up the box hard.
More serious point is that that chemical black dust not only stays in the glove box. It spread into the whole car throughout the air conditioning system because the glove box is connected to the air conditioning system, Take a close look at top of the glove box, there is small vent in a dial which cools down drink cans.
If you wipe out a dashboard or any other surface inside a car, Fur like-chemical black dust must be found in a wet tissue !! If then, it might came into your or your families lung !!
Many Korean customers who bought new E class raised this issue and ask Mercedes Benz KOREA to solve this problem, but the only reply we’ve received is “WAIT UNTIL The head office of Mercedes Benz in Germany answers”.
This is not a matter of some unlucky owners, all e class shares same materials on glove box. Urge your dealer or Mercedes officers to take every effort to change the glove box as soon as possible !! You and your childrens still breathes in black chemical dust in your car !!

You can just close the Air Vent inside the Glove Box ?
After reading your post, I use those "sticky paper roll" for cleaning Winter Coat to track around my Car's box... I don't see much black dust or patricidal ? I hop you can the issue resolved with Mercedes Korea.

I've noticed my white iPod in the glovebox beeing covered in these black fibers. But I don't have it in the rest of my car. IFAIK the vent is just blowing air, not vice versa.

This came up once before by another person, also from S Korea.
I'm curious as to the mfg plate on these cars. Where are they made? The E Class is now made in Malaysia by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd, and in China by Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Corp.
You'd think that the vendor for the glove box material would be the same whether the car's built in Germany or Asia. But not necessarily so. Sometimes other vendors are used depending on geographic location.
There hasn't been much said about it here in NA (or elsewhere.) The only other person now mentioning it is Ipp who's from Sweden.
Anyway, it's a nuisance but to imply that it's a dangerous "chemical dust" is stretching things a bit, imho. It's simply polyester fibers. I'm guessing with a good vacuuming, you can get rid of them and the glove box lining material will eventually stop shedding over time.

I have the "black fur" in my glove box (11/09 W212 E3504 build). It's about 2-3mm long and gets all over anything that's in the box.
I also have this occuring in my Porsche's glovebox.. When I get to detailing, I'll vaccum it out.

That's gross, looks like the glove box has pubes.
Aside from being unacceptable on obviously many levels. Is there any proof or rationale behind this being unhealthy, or toxic in any way? Of course, breathing in little fibers isn't "healthy" but whether it's toxic-ish is another story.
Are U.S Spec E-Classes made with the same glove-box material? That's pretty preposterous, seeing as to how it sheds all over anything in the glove-box, and can easily find itself around the car.
Hopefully M-B Quality-Controls the situation.

has to be u.s. spec cars....
i'm in the u.s.
porsche must be using the same type of liner. i wouldn't want to inhale it, but i'm not too concerned. just looks pretty cheap to have this, whether it's Porsche or MB.

Interesting. Probably the same part supplier. Definitely upsetting, with a Luxury M-B, you expect attention to detail that eliminates that kind of stuff.
I can confirm that I've never had this problem in my W211, unless it had it in the beginning and all the "fuzz" is gone now. Although I'm pretty sure it never had that cheap and shedding material to begin with.

It would be that It is a regional local problem olny in korea or Asia.
But it is very serious & dangerous problem. MB-Korea said that they only waiting a official anser from Germany. during that time, many innocent MB-user in Korea inhalate owefull black dust in to the lung.
Adequate action is needed most quickly.

And it's not flying all over the place, it's in the glove box. And it would be the last thing I'd be worried about if I were breathing in air in Seoul.
It's a vendor issue and I'm sure there will be a simple TSB soon. What's with all these first time Korean posters all of a sudden? Like Chicken Little. OMG, the sky is falling. Are you BMW F10 salespeople?

It's not exactly a "black chemical dust" it's polyester fibers.

Have you met many BMW salesmen in this site?? Did you know me?? I'm just new E300 user in Korea. (Like in my country, There are a few ridiculously rude people in the world)
Did you see above link http://cafe.naver.com/neweclass/2622 ??
Polyester fiber, that you think better than chemical dust, is dopsitting not only in glove box but flying everywhere in the car.
If you want, please ride the fiber-flying car with me in the Seoul city you don't like??

I dunno about the toxic fear stuff. But complaining about it is worthy, since it's simply a gross and unacceptable material to use. Complaints get action, so they're on the right track in raising awareness, better than convincing yourself it's okay simply to further enhance your happiness in your car.

Check the fibres coming from the carpets and floor mats in your car or your house. It is all normal. Nothing to get alarmed with.

I'm glad I just cancelled the trip to South-Korea, I might have been affected by the smog, sorry, by the toxic chemical dust from bypassing MBs.

But look, you two come on here with your very first posts complaining that the end of the world has arrived. Why not introduce yourselves first and become part of the community? Then you can ask if anyone else is experiencing the same issue.
This is so common. Somebody has a problem with their car and they don't get immediate satisfaction from the dealer. So they post on the car forums hoping to get attention. They link to a website or blog that they have used to show the issue. Maybe they hope they can pressure the manufacturer this way.
If this is a major issue, then MB will address it in due time. I'm sure they have other things to deal with, too. Being so alarmist about it won't move it along any faster.
The fuzz in the glove box it will resolve itself. You won't die from over toxicity while driving your car. In the meantime, why not introduce yourself, post some pics of your new car, and join in with MBWorld members. Everybody will welcome you here, it's a decent group.
