Does anyone have some DECENT pictures of this installed? Perhaps outside and taken with a real camera and not a phone camera?

Looks good none-the-less, but I'd like to see this from some more angles with better lighting.

Thanks,

Q

Can someone who has the grille tell me if the mesh is removable from the back? I want to get the chrome grill but want to paint the mesh black. Thanks!

I just noticed the flat badge I got from the dealer doesn't sit flush.

Good New/Bad News.
Bad news...the mesh is not removable...good news is you can order a Chrome Grill with Black Mesh (that's what I have).

You misunderstood me. You bought the "B" grille that has the black accents on top of the middle two bars. I want the all chrome grille that is on ebay as the "C" grille. Instead of the black on the middle 2 bars it has chrome plated ABS plastic on the bars. I have always thought that all chrome grille is more luxury looking(IMO) and would contrast well with the mesh being black. IMO the black accents on the middle bars and around the "star" housing kind of makes the mesh blend in but I want the mesh to contrast with the all chrome grill.

Thanks for confirming that it is not removable. Are the bars and the housing removable?

You may want to take a closer look at the 'all chrome one'. It does not appear that the accents on top of the slats are actually chrome, but a silver color.

MCF, it's funny because I also thought they were silver until I saw this picture and then I contacted Jason(5thgear) and he confirmed that they are chrome plated. Here is the picture I was talking about. Sorry about the size of pic.

Is the grill behind the star Black on the Chrome Grill?

Looks black to me...btw, in case you are not aware, the grill comes in three pieces requiring some assembly. I actually broke a small clip on the housing that the star attaches to trying to get the housing attached to the grill. Anyone that has one, any hints, tips, etc. etc. for assembling the grill would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

mine went on smoothly- just need to make sure the clips are aligned, and then snap together carefully. Pics below show what was included in total, as well as installed grill (just ignore the dirty car... nothing to see here folks!) I had a harder time getting the plastic cover off from inside the engine bay, but that too was pretty straightforward.

The fit of the grill is great- the flat badge sticks up a bit, which you can see in the pic. Not enough to bother me (yet...)

I also got my star grill with flat badge emblem today and installed both of them. Overall, I like the look of new star grill and flat badge. Fitment on the star grill is pretty good but I don't really like the way the flat badge is sitting on the hood right now due to it being 55cm badge covering the indention and doesn't sit totally flush with the hood. At this point I am considering putting AMG flat badge that Doctordel suggested on Page of 3 even though I hate putting AMG badge when I don't have AMG version. It will do for now until I find a MB flat emblem that will fit inside the indention.

yes if you look under the grill there is a strip of foam but it's not obvious - if you look at the pic there is a part on the right side where you can see the foam, but that's cause mine is folded at that spot. I fixed it and now you can't really see it unless you get right up close. And yes, correct on the badge.

Are you saying the foam is part of a typical installation?

yes, there is a very thin foam strip attached to the grill on the underside where it connects to the grill frame, presumably to provide a snug fit and prevent rattling.

Hey guys - got my star grill on my black E350 Luxury and it looks awesome (especially with the 1.75" billet aluminum hood badge from above post). Quick question - do you all use the back brace from the stock grill? If so, how did you get the back brace off the stock grill? Thanks!!!

Nice pic. I'm not a fan of the star grille on the cars who's faces weren't intended for them from the original design standpoint (different grille proportions), but if I got the star grille, I'd paint the *border* around the whole grille black. That chrome border is used for the luxury grilles, and if you notice, M-B NEVER puts a border around the original star grilles, at least not in the modern, or classic era's.

I think that by blacking out the border, you'll get closer to that classic star-grille look of the "floating" star and slats.

Wait, I stand corrected. They do use a very slim border on some OEM star grilles, E-Coupe to name one. The "floating" looks is still the classic look I think with the star grille, and also, with a lot of their modern offerings. Blacking out the border on these would still be interesting to me.

[quote=altec18;4254051]This week I got my brand new 2011 E350. And I bought the star grille on ebay and got it installed today. Big thanks to lyjw88 for his DIY: Removing W212 Front Grill thread.

Here's a few pictures...

Looks very nice.

Where did you get the flat badge from?

Looks great, BUT please get a better hood badge (see me posts above). I will post pics of my black luxury with star grille and lay flat aluminum (not plastic) hood badge later today (promise).....
