HID Install on P1 Package

I am getting my Halogen "regular beam" lights switched out to HID 5000 kelvin temperature lights on Monday...will post results.

Just a bulb changeout?

BPhillyBenz 10-13-2010 09:58 PM

Bulbs, ballast's, plug n play wiring...install is happening in NJ. I already swapped out the High Beams myself with Ultra Bright (white) H7 bulbs. This will be just for the Regular Beams. I regret not getting the P2 Xenon package, but this is the best aftermarket option. We will see:D (no pun intended).

Nice, I'm sure it'll look a lot better than the stockers.

O/T, but I just noticed that the small/inner lights on the P2/HID cars are also a projector type of light, whereas the P1 halogen lights come with a normal bulb situation in there (you can notice the visual difference when the lights are off or on).

Are you changing the inners as well? I wonder if they even make a bulb for those.

I would just be concerned about warranty issues with doing something like this....if there is any type of electrical issue on the car I could see MBUSA saying it was because of the modification.

Well, have it towed home first and remove the HID kits before going to dealer.

I had mine done. They are x1000 times better. Now all I need are the LED DRLs... Good luck!

Awesome...thanks x-tian...

Royce118 10-14-2010 06:59 PM

What sort of HID kits are you using? I'm planning to switch out mine as well.

BPhillyBenz 10-14-2010 09:30 PM

Sorry I don't...I'll give you the details as soon as the install happens...

Well...I got my HID Xenon's installed today in NJ (Lightwerkz). They did a great job. The installers Jay and Julian were real pros and took good care of my car and really knew what they were doing. They had to add 2 capaciters to eliminate flickering, but I had no error codes or faults. I'm very, very happy with the outcome. Nice bright, focused white light that now matches the color temp. of my LED'S. Superior output to the OEM halogin. If you can order P2...Go for it. If you have a P1 and regret not having xenon's...go after-market HID.

Hey BPhilly, is that a little strip of chrome around the bottom of your front bumper I see??

Maddic 10-18-2010 09:18 PM

So, you just get the HID kit off Lightwerkz?

I am very happy to see you got taken care by the guys at Lightwerkz...:y

I thought the P1 package only came with the double round halogen fog lights rather than the "hockey stick" LED's? How do you have the hockey stick led's but halogen headlights/drl's?

They did the install too. I am pretty good around a car...after watching them, there is no way I could have done it without screwing it up.

Hey King- The 2011 P1 Sport comes with the hockey sticks standard (kind of ironic since I coach hockey)

LOL! Wow, very unique idea, I'm very intrigued by your coming up with these different styling nuances for your car. Please do send me pics of it! I'm eager to see how it looks!

Sometimes it's just too hard for us to have any self control when it comes to our cars. :D

I had no idea! I thought the hockey sticks always meant P2.

K-A 10-18-2010 11:26 PM

They did in 2010 MY. Now for 2011+ looks like they're standard across the board.

I like hockey sticks and my Boston Bruins! We need the Bruins to come thru to join the Celtics, Patriots and my Red Sox!:topic:

Maddic 10-19-2010 02:49 AM

Please take some better pictures next time, and give us a review of this kit after more time behind it. :D

Now I understand why you did the lights - it would bug me also if the DRL were super white and then low beams were different. Thankfully with the luxury P1 I have the DRL set to off and at night, the low beams and the fog lamps at night match. They are not super white, but good enough for me not to risk an electrical problem. Also, if I did the low beams then they would not match the fog lamps.

Makes total sense.

get i have the info of the guys that installed the HID's for you. I'm looking to do mine, but heard that you need error code eliminators and all sorts of stuff. Also did you but HID in your fogs?
